Many deaths, believe more than half, happen on the way down as climbers with waning Adrenalin and depleted oxygen have to navigate a path at least as treacherous as the climb.

Solution: Put in a zip line to Camp 4. Safe, rapid descent. No more interminable delays at the Hillary Step when people climbing and descending have to pass each other.

Happens every year. You could open a Starbucks at the Hillary Step the traffic is so heavy.

That’s not realistic for any number of reasons.

I know but it might reduce the traffic......

it’s become a cool thing to include on your resume.

Entry needs to be regulated by the countries who allow you entry to climb. Right now they charge massive sums.

there need to s]limit the number or raise prices to stop the huge numbers of people going.

Amazing, but at $15,000 a climber fee I guess someone is cashing in.

Actually it's between $30,000 and $45,000 with most people paying the $45K........

A crowd of climbers slog up the Lhotse Face, heading toward Camp IV, last stop before the summit. Loose regulations and a boom in commercial guiding over the past two decades have made Everest far more accessible to experts and novices alike

Headlamps trace a path to the summit a few hours before dawn. Without tighter safety rules, climbers will continue to face more hazards on the mountain than altitude and the elements

I climb/hike to get away from people. That looks awful.

It certainly does! Makes it seem, not so special or unique an undertaking.

Did I say *undertaking*? >8D

“I understand the path to the top is littered with frozen human bodies buried in the snow.”

indeed. there are dozens of gruesome photos of those littered bodies deteriorating while still dressed in their expensive gear that remains perfectly intact ...

Challenging Everest? Why not drop in at Ricky Pule's, only 24,000 feet from this cinema. Ricky and Maurice offer a variety of styles for the well-groomed climber. Why should Tenzing and Sir Edmond Hillary be number one on top, when you're number one on top?

You’re right about the total, which is probably round 50k all in, but I think 10 or 15 goes to the government as a fee.

In my opinion, the only solution to the traffic problem is to remove all the ladders, ropes and safety devices and return the mountain to what it was. Then let the real climbers climb at their own risk.

It's not a place for rich thrill seekers who have no idea of what they are doing.........

Seems that dead and alive human bodies are the chief technical obstacles on both the ascent and descent.

I understand the bodies simply are not retrievable by human means in many instances. Generally, those that are accessible already have been removed.
