A house this age doesn’t stand a chance. The fire dept is there to save lives and keep the neighbors from burning up.
The last 2 towns I’ve lived in had no hydrants. If the fire is small enough the pumpers can handle it. If not they put a pumper down near a pond or stream and a long F@#$$% feeder hose that supplies the smaller hoses.

The first pictures look like it would have started in the attic as no fire is shown on the ground floor. Fire is a horrible thing. Beautiful place at one time.. I didn’t see any mention of a sprinkler system.
“two workers were able to escape” - no mention of what the workers were doing. Household/domestic or other workers of some kind - like the Notre Dame Fire this year?
