This is known as “speaking to them in a language they understand”. Effective communications.

Say what you want- Rooskies do not screw around and tend to be somewhat direct in their communication-

Agreed. That is what they understand. Use their language.

The Russians are on the same page when it comes to their enemies.
Our problem is that every single name on the Democrat's voter registration is an enemy. And that translates to roughly half the country, not counting dead rats that still vote.

Jimmy Carter would have taken this case to the World Court, as he did with our hostages in Iran.

I recall this article from a Comparative Political Science class I took 1987 or so. The juxtaposition of this incident, compared to what we were dealing with in terms of kidnapping and terrorism in Lebanon at the time. I gave a grudging tip of the hat to the commies for taking care of their people.

About 10 years ago, Somali pirates seized a Russian flagged cargo ship. The Russian navy moved in, retook the ship and seized the pirates. The Russians expressed their desire to try the pirates in Moscow, but cited complications with international law, compelling them to release the pirates, which they did.

Russians didn’t play when it came to some matters. They understood the rules.

Middle east terrorists don’t attack Russian targets.
Beslan was a strong lesson.

It makes for good reading, but can’t really draw any conclusions for the current.
Beslan was in 2004 and conducted by Islamic extremists - hundreds were killed, including children. Plenty of Russians have been killed in the Middle East since 1985.
And in 1985, the KGB was still a formidable force. What exists now in Russia, although formidable, is not as lethal and pervasive as the KGB of Communist Russia.
