If you had a time machine and could go back to the 1950s and the early 1960s (before the hippies, then the criminals, then the gays, then the homeless took it over) it was an amazing city.

When you see isolated ancient ruins and no-one remembers the great civilization that lived there and wondered how this could be—you now know what happened— the “progressive” zombies destroyed the place.

It is obvious the $15 minimum wage was a failure. The demonrats need to raise it to $20 and if that doesn't work, they should move to $25.

Back in the mid ‘90s the statistic in Atlanta was out of 500 eating establishments opened, 495 would close within a year. Tough business. And there isn’t nearly as much poop on the sidewalk here.

“How many restaurants are there in San Francisco? What has been the historic shutdown rate in SF and in other cities?”

Excellent questions. Perspective is required in every news story that you read.

It’s hard to enjoy your meal when somebody’s stepped in a pile of human crap outside the restaurant, tracked it inside, walked by your table...and deposited said crap on the floor at your feet.

I consider the $15/hr wage mandate a government tax.

It is exactly that. Workers that retain their jobs at the higher minimum wage will feel beholden to the city government. Those that lose those jobs will likely leave the city. Of course there's a third category of worker that doesn't get much Press... the workers that still have jobs but get their hours slashed. They are very, very unhappy.

we take the bus to the train station in oakland to catch the train to San Francisco. But the crowd was so “troubling’ at that station that after a half hour there, we took the surface transportation back to the airport and caught the next flight back to Seattle.

It literally felt like one of those “post apocalyptic” movie sets.

It's a shame that the actor Tom Hanks, who is from Oakland, never gets the message. I've seen a few interviews where he gets all nostalgic about Oakland. Just another reason not to trust a liberal.

If we didn’t have a minimum wage, I bet some companies would give 50 cents an hour. You know that’s true. Heck they bulk at 8 bucks. You know they’d try to go as low as they could.

And you know that minimum wage jobs are initial entry jobs, starter jobs, that were never made to support a family on.

You also know that teens aren’t told by their parents to work any ore for their spending money.

San Francisco was once a Republican bastion in California.

San Francisco's last Republican mayor served from 1956-64.

I recall from Econ class that industries tend to move toward a given rate of return. Two exceptions (at that time) were airlines and the restaurant industry.

So I assume a given amount of turnover. I also assume that raising costs in the way an increase minimum wage does will put businesses on the margin out of business.
