I have to respectfully disagree that nothing can be done. Singapore’s efforts to stop the virus have had fantastic success, but it was aided enormously by the 4.5 billion they immediately spent on it, and high level of surviellance their populace is willing to live with.

But things like social distancing do work to flatten the curve, delay the surge on the healthcare system, and even out rates of infection so that society doesn’t suffer nearly as much.

Trump should focus on encouraging those strategies, not telling people it’s not that big a deal, and they should keep eating out.

Singapore is a small, socially strict society.

While I think they have done the gold standard in containment, there is no way any city in the US would ever be able to have the control over the population.

They are two worlds that are simply too far apart.

College students are being sent home so they don't develop CoVod-19 at college where they'll be a risk to other students and school staff. Concerns about legal liability are also involved.

Why Singapore might be having it easier to contain the virus than just about any place else.

Singapore is an island of about 280 sq.miles with relatively easy to contril boundaries. with a population just under 6 million.

Compare this to the city of Los Angeles, with an area 470 sq miles and population of about 4 million. This doesn't include the entire L.A. Metro area.

This is a difficult line for a President to walk. I don’t like a lot of things Bush did but he got thrust into a crazy situation that few Presidents have to deal with 9/11

Trump has got to take this seriously and quit his typical hyperbole.

A strong In Command President who is willing to do what it takes to combat a situation and recognizes he must act...and will use his powers to get around Pelosi if need be.

That is what I want to see.

There was early news that someone sent it from the U.S. to Canada, and from there the Chinese spy couple sent it to China and were expelled from Canada.

One thing I think we know is that the Canadians didn’t invent it.

And we know that China steals intellectual property rather than inventing and developing things.

Just a thought.

Could you provide a website link to that? My wife contends coronaviruses are seasonal and I contend they aren’t. This might settle our argument.

I believe the story about the animals being sold on the underground market instead of being disposed of properly, partly because Tsarfati said it was so and he has access to a lot of information.

The mountain villages are, or at least were, isolated, even from one another. (My relatives told folk stories about this, always with a thought-provoking ending.) But I think it means only the ones with strong immunity survived. No real doctors like we have here of course, and the mountain villages are hard to get to.

I think this virus was ours to begin with.

The Harvard Professor Charles Lieber was arrested back around Jan. 28th along with a Chinese student in December trying to smuggle 21 vials of ??? out of the country. The Chinese student was actually a Lieutenant in the Chinese Military. The other Chinese Student escaped back to China and is an upper echelon Military person.

Zaosong Zheng, 30, a Chinese national, was arrested on Dec. 10, 2019, at Boston’s Logan International Airport and charged by criminal complaint with attempting to smuggle 21 vials of biological research to China.

The Canadian Lab and persons involved also have connections to the Wuhan Lab and training them to handle Level 4 biohazards. This was the lead team to prep them for the transfer of the virus.

Canadian government scientist under investigation trained staff at Level 4 lab in China

The real twist of fate here is Professor Lieber is a nano-chemistry professor. If the real secret here with the virus is it is some sort of nano-technology paired with a lethal viruses...well that is the stuff of zombie apocalypses. Spanish flu didn’t kill the first time around the world, it took 3 turns at it before it was done. What or how a nana-tech virus will act, one maybe not fully developed? We don’t know.

Keep in mind that Iran also stated at the start of their outbreak that America should take care of their own flu.

Now...as long as my tinfoil is working...this all happened about the time of the Ukraine brush up for impeachment. We knew it was a hoax and a distraction, but we didn’t know from what. Recall Pelosi saying Trump was a National Security Threat.... Why would she remotely even say something like this? Ukraine was nowhere near a NST. But democrats always project ...always.

I am starting to really believe this whole mess links back to the deep state democrats. There are just too many coincidences. Democrats always project onto others what they themselves are doing. Saying Trump was a National Security Threat should have been a red flag for us to be looking beyond Ukraine and the Impeachment debacle.

Ok...I think I burned my tinfoil out with this post.

Mmmm, you went a little far with that one, but interesting in parts. Let’s not blame the Democrats for this. They cause plenty of trouble without a virus ever crossing their path.

Rune, I am sharing why it is my opinion that some not all of the reactions to the virus on this thread are too extreme.

I’d love if everyone agreed with everything I say but I know they won’t and I accept that. This is an opinion forum.

I’ve been with us from thread one. I haven’t missed a thing.

No thankfully not all predictions of all FReepers have come to pass! Some have of course.

You take offense that I said “old people?” That’s not necessary

I was responding to several posts I’ve seen where posters said no one cared cause just “old people” get it.

I see the actual call for quarantine of healthy people, and the lauding of those who have done the same (healthy diamond princess people, China with their extreme quarantine) frequently on these threads.

I’m not going to comb through all but offer the first one I saw after your response, by blue plum:

“Seems to me, it should be the youth and their children under ‘house arrest’. For the 30 or so days it takes to express the virus. Reason being, the disease in youth is almost universally mild, and nowhere near the burden on the health system as 15% of the nation’s seniors being intubated in negative pressure ICUs.”

I don’t say this to insult blue plum who is entitled to their opinion. Just to offer an example it took me ten seconds to find. This opinion is frequent in the threads.

Blue plum I pinged you because I quoted you and I understand that is proper etiquette. I mean no offense.
