Pretty much what I do as well. Stay up as long as I want and sleep in the same. Though I seem to have an inner clock that says ‘Time’..LOL

I have everything one could possible need within two blocks food wise and everything else a mile and a half drive which oopens up to several strip malls, Super stores , Lowe’s and Big Lots, Hotels etc etc and yet I’m on a side street in a relatively quiet neighborhood.

Perfect location.

Dang. On one hand, I just missed the cut-off, age-wise. On the other hand, thank God I did and I’m still here to celebrate it. I’m getting as creaky as an old fishing trawler, but I’m glad I’m not ready for the glue factory yet.

Try being a supervisor on call 24/7. There's a classic case of, what doesn't kill you make your stronger.

I wanted to die. *sob*

Yeah, I forgot to put a plausible deniability, sanity clause in the original post.

I’ve hear that there is data supporting the fact that those rotating shifts can be killer.

It makes sense. If they clean and disinfect at night, or right before opening, it would be the best time for those who are most at risk to come in.

"Likely better than the rotating shifts I worked a couple of summers as a yute."

Really! Two two two and 80 Navy Watch Stander.

I have discovered through direct, first-hand experience, that just being on an on-going, on call capacity is actually better in the long term than trying to adapt to a rotating shift. Seriously. One of the biggest bugaboos about shift work is the loss of the sense of time. 11-7 one month, 3-11 another month, 7-3 the next, and you have to realign your internal mental and biological clock to those existential constraints. In a normal world (which we no longer live in), even if you try your hardest to plan recreational and/or personal relief based on the PTO (AKA ‘VACATION’) time you have been alotted, you end up trying to actually force yourself into a cycle your mind and body aren’t ready for. It’s like a state of shock in some ways. When you accept a position where your mind and body are on a constant state of alert, you are already pre-programmed for a heightened state and are aware of the time of day, no matter what. And I say this fully wanting to eliminate round-the-clock on-call, and kick the ass or dig up the bones and stomp on each and every son of a bitch who let the concept take root with the do-it-or-else mentality. Doctors? Yes. Cops? Certainly. But your g*ddamned tire plant isn’t going to go tits-up because some circuit in your rubber vulcanizing system is trying to cough up a hairball at 2 AM.

It was a bit ago, but AFAICR we rotated shifts every week.

Day —> Afternoon —> Night.

I found driving home after the night shift to be the wurst.

Oh, agreed. I contracted for a major heavy equipment manufacturer fifteen or so years ago whom I hope die choking on their own avaristic bile for all the after-hours work I did for them, gratis, as a way of helping the 'team' and never bitched about 'fairness' or 'compensation', and I learned after so many days of driving home on cold, dark evenings, how much I appreciated being married to my current wife. I had an 80 mile commute each way, and so many evenings after dark, I'd be driving the county highway home towards the interstate and see so many other houses, whether site-built or trailers, and as weary as I was, there would be lights on inside. And I realized that so many fellow travellers were home, warm, and safe with their families. It was almost a jealous feeling, seeing how comfortable their homes looked from the outside while I was gripping the wheel and trying to keep my eyes focused on the road. It felt bleak, cold, foreboding, sometimes in a ice-cold rain. And I'd think of how our family home looked up in the Maryland mountains when you pull up to it. To this day, even though my wife doesn't fully grasp it, I keep all of our home's windows illuminated with these - I want anyone who comes to my door with good will to feel like they've reached a little beacon of home, hearth, and good cheer:

Yes by all means let’s post police outside every 60 y.o. person’s house
to make sure they can’t get out. Makes sense in your world huh?

“Bidet, bidet, bidet, that’s all folks!”

How many people will be remodeling their bathrooms during the next year? It might be good for the plumbing industry.
