The Germans were initially greeted as liberators in Ukraine, and after the wall came down decades later the soviets admitted they’d deliberately sent agents into the occupied area as saboteurs and snipers to (successfully) draw German reprisals against Ukrainian civilians. As those reprisals worsened, the good feelings eroded.
The numbers certainly don’t bear out your assertion about WWII; there were no major battles in Armenia. I suspect many of their deaths were combat deaths in other theaters; for example, they participated (as part of the Soviet army) in the battle of Berlin.
I read where there’s a whole series on that tank battle like 6 ... my dad and the rest of the guys are really interested in it when I showed them the first one. Very realistic.

We lost plenty of Americans fighting the Japanese while the USSR observed a truce with them until the final months of the war; that is how they turned the Axis back in the west (by transferring the Far eastern troops no longer needed to defend against Japan).
The Cold War that immediately started with the fall of Berlin showed what type of “allies” they were; the following wars in Korea and Vietnam really drove it home.

The Japanese agreed to a ceasefire in the far East after the Russians kicked their asses at Khalkhan Gol in 1939. The Soviets were smarter than the Germans, they did not intend to fight a two front war with German and Japan. Soviet intelligence in Japan, advised Moscow that the Japanese had abandoned any hope of conquering Eastern Siberia and instead were planning a late 1941 offensive against the Philippines, Dutch East Indies, British Malaya and French Indochina. This is when about 100,000 troops from the Siberia were transferred West. Just in time to form the reserves necessary for the Moscow counter offensive in late 1941. The Russians had no interest in starting up the war with the Japanese. But at Yalta the Americans insisted the Soviets enter the war with Japan.
The Soviets agreed to attack Japan three months after the war in Europe ended.
In war you take allies where ever you can find them.
They weren’t allies; within four years of the end of WWII they’d overthrown the Chinese republic, and a year later Americans were dying in Korea from Soviet weapons.
I live in an area with many Eastern Europeans; they don’t view the outcome of WWII as anything positive for their people at all. They were enslaved for 45 years after the war ended.

“Per capita”, Belarus lost nearly TWICE AS MANY PEOPLE as Armenia.
They were our allies during the war. Saying they weren’t doesn’t change that fact. After the war is an entirely different issue.
They interred US pilots who landed in the Far East (after bombing Japan) for the duration of the war.

Let’s say a really small number of US pilots were kept by the Soviets just for show for the Japanese inspectors to make it look like the Soviets are observing neutrality in the Pacific war. Also the conditions they lived in were better than of middle class Soviets. All in all the Americans insisting to go home who weren’t on record with the Japanese were smuggled to Iran and then moved further by the British.

They killed more far people than Hitler, and most were their own citizens.
Nine our of every ten Germans killed during WWII were killed by Soviet soldiers. That is all that counts.
