Greece must take immediate action to end the violence against migrants and asylum seekers at the border between Turkey and Greece, an independent UN human rights expert said on Monday, expressing alarm at reports of violence at the hands of some Greek security officers and unidentified armed men.

"I am very concerned about the reported pushbacks of asylum seekers and migrants, which constitutes a violation of the prohibition of collective expulsions and the principle of non-refoulement," said Felipe González Morales, Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants.

The Special Rapporteur also raised the alarm over an increase in hostility and violence against humanitarian workers, human rights defenders and journalists working at the border and in the Greek Aegean Sea.

"Greece has the responsibility to ensure that migrants and those assisting them are protected from threats and attacks", he said. "The authorities should condemn promptly and ensure accountability for any such acts."

The independent UN expert has shared his concerns with the Greek Government along with the relevant European Union institutions and the Government of Turkey.

The Special Rapporteurs are part of the Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council. Special Procedures, the largest body of independent experts in the UN Human Rights system. They are independent from any government or organization and serve in their individual capacity.

The UN needs to start downsizing, or being downsized.

I recommend the liberal use of live ammunition against these invaders. Wouldn’t be a terrible idea to use some on the Turks either.

Greece is starting to get the Israel treatment. How long before the Greeks start getting called illegitimate “occupiers” of their own country?

Any liberal will tell you that a Native American tribe has a right to its own land, and it’s own culture. But when a country like Greece tries to assert those same rights, every liberal has a sad.

By the way, what the hell is a “Special Rapporteur”? I wouldn’t listen to anybody with a title like that. It sounds like a person who works at some snobby country club.

They don’t have to live like a rapefugee.
But since they do, slaughter them at the border.

There are zero refugees because they are required to have stayed when they got to turkey.

That's my question too.

One interesting this is that 85% of the “refugees” are from Afghanistan and Pakistan. Only a couple percent are from Syria.

Turkey could end the war in Syria tomorrow, and the Syrian refugees could be home within a week or two. They just have to want to end it.

Putin is trying to get Iranian influence / occupation in Syria to end, and also wants to dig his hooks deeper into Turkey, so he's been doing all he can to keep the pot boiling. So is Iran. Not too sure the mullahcracy is going to survive much longer, what a shame, but Turkey's about the same size as Iran, and has brighter economic prospects than Iran or Syria.
