We get our SS via Direct Deposit.

We filed our taxes, like every other year and for the 1st time requested Direct Deposit. For some reason, these people who manage to DD to 2 different accounts every month for years, couldn’t manage to DD to one of them for the tax refund. We got a check. Like every IRS refund check ever in our working lives, it took 6 weeks, when we had been told Direct Deposit would take 3.

Before people moan about our refund, we were always self-employed. We have always paid quarterly. DH retired in 2017 and so, we began getting refunds. I retired last month after cutting back my work schedule for a couple of years. Last year was lower income, so we got a refund on our advanced payments. We still are paying small quarterly payments, due to self-employment taxes.

Considering the number of people getting this money, it’s amazing to me that they manage it in 6 weeks.

“Experts warn”, so panic is called for. And anger. Lots of anger, especially at Donald Trump. All contractual payments are waived with no penalty or interest for the duration, from what I read. People lost a percentage of their investments in the great casino and, if the rebound from the 2008 debacle, fueled by the realistic fear of an Obama presidency, is any indication, most will come back. How many lost everything? Who was left without money for food? What paid for those 2-5 full baskets we saw being checked out two weeks ago?

I conclude that no matter what happens, be it good, bad or ugly, it is all Trump’s fault and we must therefore roll over and allow Global Deep State communism to take over.

If you are not part of the solution, there is good money to be made prolonging the problem

Be careful out there. Scammers are already making calls claiming to be IRS and needing banking accounts to deposit check.

Am sure the scammers are ‘loving’ this type of crap.

It makes them more ‘credible’ when asking for YOUR data and after seeing all this crap SOME people become more vulnerable.

Then the ‘fixers’ move in and finish the sheep off.

Another good reason to start opening up businesses again.

Canada is at the epicenter of all of this via the Canadian IT contractor CGI.

These are the same wonderful folks who brought you the Obamacare Portal that crashed and burned right out of the box. Their business model appears to be to land big government contracts through shady relationships and kickbacks, and then milk them for every available billable hour without actually producing anything.

They have a knack for taking Affirmative Action hires with zero IT background and presto-chango turning them into Project Managers.

Around 1982 I saw a short film of the Treasury check printing machinery. Some of it dated to the 1800s.

The explanation was that it still worked fine.

Just take it off the taxes I owe for tax year 2020...or even 2019 when I go see the tax lady next week. Perfectly acceptable to me.

Better yet...just give me a National Parks coastal fort. The Dry Tortugas fort would suit me fine. Of course, I'm gonna need some big guns to mount on the walls. Talk about social distancing...

Likely the union that represented linotype operators was really behind it.

No, I suspect they have IBM 1400s or maybe 360/370s. The government shunned IBM for a time, so they might have Univac or Burroughs machines.

Because that was it’s purpose. Giving it back, not so much.

“No water there.”

That’s a shame. Beautiful place (in the pictures)...would love to go there of day.

If you didn’t file your 2019 or 2018 taxes AND get a refund via direct deposit, don’t hold your breath on how soon you will get a check.

Whether you filed in in 2018, or not, I'd bet you will be getting a check. 2019 tax filing deadline has been pushed back for a few months.

If you get a SS check, you'll be getting a $1,200 check whether you filed a 1040 form, or not. I expect mine to be deposited in the next 2-3 weeks along with my regular SS check. My wife will be getting one, too. Our plan is to spread it around to small businesses and restaurants; and, to make a an added generous contribution to our church.

Let’s just abolish it and put all taxes on sales.
Problem solved.

Better solution, long story short.

Revoke 16/17th Amendments.
Congress/Pres pass a budget.
Budget is divided by <535>. Each State is responsible for its share based on CongressCritters, can raise funds however they wish.
Budget gets crazy hardcore cut, cause now the States have some decent control, and they can't funny-money everything the way FedGov does.

Bonus benefit. A bunch of small NE states probably can't afford this (outsized share due to each State getting two Senators), so they'll have to combine a bunch of States. Voila, now the Senate has several fewer Dems in it!
