just so I’m clear, what’s happened is that emails and passwords have been revealed but it’s up to others to hack them? Or have these email accounts been hacked and the emails have just not been released yet?

I think that’s correct. I think a few emails were released at the same time but that information is a little more fuzzy. Most of the articles out now are just focusing on how horrible the hackers are and how this information may be used to unfairly attack the organizations. Guess we’ll see.

Never heard of this India news outlet.

Thanks to a tip from Revel on a new thread, it appears this may not even be actual hacks at all, but rather a “honeypot” setup as an attempt by someone to smoke out potential hackers who may be interested in trying out a few of the usernames and passwords, etc.

I read they were some on 4chan that were deleted. See the post of mine above where it appears to have all began on a brand new version of 9chan that mysteriously appeared right beforehand. Some are guessing it’s all a hoax of old information being used as an attention grabber, distraction, or honeypot to trap actual hackers.

I don't know but the WHO data is supposedly from a 2016 hack.

Emails from then probably wouldn't be relevant but someone might be able to use the credentials and get some current stuff.

Email IDs from Gates Foundation, which recently donated USD 150 million to Wuhan Institute of Virology, were also leaked. Wuhan was the epicentre of the pandemic.

I don’t support hacking in any way, shape, or form, but what could be very interesting is if some of the contents of actual messages are exposed, and what they might imply. I’ve noticed the WP is already saying that type of information is likely to be used by conspiracy theorists, but if it’s a smoking gun that’s exposed, how is that just a conspiracy?
