Lists like this are so subjective so as to be useless.

All of these songs would cause me to stop pushing buttons for three minutes. And I’ve paid money for most of them—in one form or another.

But, “best”....not sure.

Not a bad list altho I’ve never acquired a taste for the not-the-boss-of-me. Opinions are like ... you know.

SiriusXM 177 just completed the Top 1000 Classic Pop Songs (1955-72) and just started the Top 1000 Alternative Songs. After that I think will be the Top 1000 Classic Rock Songs which will start in 1972 and run thru... who knows? But it will be fun to hear, even though I think the year delineations are somewhat arbitrary. Clearly the 70s will dominate.

“The ‘70’s were much more superior for classic rock, IMHO.”

No kidding; the ‘70s music was fun. The ‘80s music was disturbing. But each to his own, huh?

I graduated high school in 1984, and don’t think any 80’s music is classic rock. I guess if one had to put a time line on it, then classic rock would be 1979 and before.

no alice cooper? :(

Not crazy about that list- it’s ok- but not my idea of cool rock sings- I think maybe because they played them till we got sick of hearing them- the 80’s was a weird time for rock- they were flirting with ‘ballard-like’ rock songs a lot- the only one that I liked for ballard-like rock was cooper- just because his ballards were so disturbing in content- edgy- very different-

[[I personally think the ‘70’s had much better Classic Rock Songs but that’s just me.]]

Agreed-

I generally don’t like post-Gabriel Genesis, but “Turn It On Again” (released 1980) was one of the better songs of the 1980s.

Yeah, the 80s for me was more about alternative rock, than classic rock.

When Zep broke up, for me that was pretty much the end of the “Classic Rock” period. The great hard rock/progressive bands from the 70s all moved in a more pop-oriented direction.

IMHO, I think the best 80’s with the passage of time, is The Smiths’ “How Soon is Now?”....A real game changer, and I’m not even that big of a Smiths/Morrisey fan. But Johnny Marr’s guitar work on it is exquisite.

I signed up for the free Sirius XM thru May 31st, but I hadn’t made it up as high as 177. Thanks for the head’s up.

:de gustibus non est disputandum

My high School Latin is a bit rusty, but I think the best modern translation of that would be "One man's kitsch is another man's living room".

Clickbait. Stupid. Great decade for music and one author decides what’s good.

Duke is a damn good album. But the "hits" on it were the weak points. But 'Heathaze' is one of the best Genesis songs ever.
