‘Outside report’...

Dollar General had my brand of TP so I got some. Had about 2 wks supply left. Still surprised supply didn’t come back quicker.

“Opening up”.
States that have ‘minimal’ Influnza Like Illness are opening up.
Very reasonable. Though their are other factors to consider, ‘minimal’ ILI means they have Healthcare ability to respond to a rise in cases.
Hope they don’t see that.

Based on all of the couples, I’d have guessed that is San Francisco. Not that there’s anything wrong with that...

So what’s the deal with Bangladesh. Crowded. Public transportation. Poor people. Poor health care.

But look at the number of deaths and cases compared to their population. Its low.

Thalassemia in Bangladesh
Featured snippet from the web
Thalassemia is a hereditary blood disorder that causes severe anemia in children. These patients need 1-2 bags of blood every month to survive. Thalassemia is very common in Bangladesh. 7% of our population are thalassemia carriers and every year 7000 new babies are born with thalassemia in Bangladesh.

Malaria is a significant public health problem in Bangladesh. The disease is endemic in 13 of 64 districts, with over 17 million people at risk (over 8% of the total population) [1, 2].Jul 11, 2018

.....somebody should be looking at their blood to see if there is a clue

Math reality for flu-bro’s

154 doctors at an average 10 years of education/specialization, average another 10 years of practice and that gives 15,400 years that need to be replaced just in Italy.

We can fasttrack nurses aides in 4-6 weeks but any level above that starts to tell the story of what we have lost and will have to make up: degree’d EMTs and LVNs in 2-3, RN’s in 5-6, PA’s in 8-9 years (accounting for the all too frequent instances of overdemand for classes required for a student nurse to achieve an AS or BS degree). Add in an average of xx years practice, and there is the true damage of this pandemic. Because these aides, and EMTs and LVNs and RNs and PAs, the MDs and Specialized, didn’t just treat virus victims.

OUTBREAK ALERT: MESSICO

Measles – Mexico
Disease outbreak news
24 April 2020
Mexico is experiencing a measles outbreak. Between 1 January and 2 April 2020, 1,364 probable1cases of measles were reported, of which 124 were laboratory confirmed, 991 were discarded and 328 remain under investigation.

The age of the confirmed measles cases ranged from three months to 68 years (median=20 years), and 59% were male.

Analysis conducted by the National Reference Laboratory (InDRE) identified the genotype D8 (similar to other countries in the Region), linage MVs/GirSomnath.IND/42.16/ for 17 of the confirmed cases.

https://www.who.int/csr/don/24-April-2020-measles-mexico/en/

The mode of transmission is airborne or via droplets from the nose, mouth, or throat of infected persons. Initial symptoms, which usually appear 10–12 days after infection, include high fever, usually accompanied by one of several of the following: runny nose, bloodshot eyes, cough, and tiny white spots on the inside of the mouth. Several days later, a rash develops, usually starting on the face and upper neck and gradually spreads downwards. A patient is infectious four days before the start of the rash to four days after the appearance of the rash. There is no specific antiviral treatment for measles

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, there might be a risk of disruption to routine immunization activities due to both COVID-19 related burden on the health system and decreased demand for vaccination because of physical distancing requirements or community reluctance. Disruption of immunization services, even for brief periods, can result in increased numbers of susceptible individuals ///

Heads up, border states. That is all.

CHINA -

Report: China hid coronavirus’ severity to hoard supplies

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/report-china-hid-coronavirus-severity-to-hoard-supplies/ar-BB13yha5?ocid=spartanntp

I’d go further than the title - hoarded and actively worked to strip global supplies, to prevent other nations from accessing them. And then engaged in an active campaign of profiteering from the China-created shortage by price-gouging and substituting sub-standard product to the rest of the world. In spite of the reality that China was never entirely shut down, many provinces were open, including those where mask and PPE factories were located and which never shut down. If you added up the numbers imported, at least 100 million, plus their own production, of 115 million a day, their need was met in 10 days. And yet they use their production to blackmail countries into granting concessions to China, which only benefit China, in exchange for life-saving equipment.

This March 13, NYT article explains that mask production was ongoing in Feb in several locations: “China made half the world’s masks before the coronavirus emerged there, and it has expanded production nearly 12-fold since then....Daily production soared from about 10 million at the start of February to 115 million at the end of the month, according to the Chinese government.”

BAY AREA COV=IDIOT

Northern California city official ousted over remarks suggesting COVID-19 be allowed to weed out elderly, weak

ANTIOCH, Calif. — A Northern California city official has been ousted after he suggested on social media that sick, old and homeless people should be left to meet their “natural course in nature” during the coronavirus pandemic.

City council members in Antioch, a city of about 110,000 people, voted unanimously Friday night to remove Ken Turnage II from his post as chairman of the city’s planning commission.

There was a swift uproar after Turnage characterized people with weak immune systems as a drain on society.

He wrote on Facebook: “the World has been introduced to a new phrase Herd Immunity which is a good one. In my opinion we need to adapt a Herd Mentality. A herd gathers it ranks, it allows the sick, the old, the injured to meet its natural course in nature.”

As for homeless people, he added that the virus would “fix what is a significant burden on our society and resources that can be used.”

SOCAL - FOOD CHAIN

After outbreak at Hollywood store, Ralphs to begin testing employees

Los Angeles County health officials reported on Friday that 21 employees tested positive for COVID-19 at the “Rock and Roll Ralphs” at 7257 W. Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood.
The results triggered protests by union workers outside the supermarket to call for greater protective measures.
The grocery chain now says it will offer testing

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/after-outbreak-at-hollywood-store-ralphs-to-begin-testing-employees/ar-BB13ypxF?ocid=spartanntp

let me guess at the next step: employees will refuse to test citing privacy rights of illegals employed in grocery stores.

ALASKA - FOOD CHAIN

In Alaska town, calls to shut down fishing season amid coronavirus fears

Some locals fear that history could repeat itself unless Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy (R) shuts down the upcoming salmon fishery, which attracts more than 12,000 workers from across the country for a frenetic, two-month season that begins next month....

At a recent news conference, Dunleavy called Bristol Bay leaders’ concerns “legitimate.” His administration has issued rules requiring that fishers wear masks while traveling and, after arriving, go directly to their vessels for a two-week quarantine, with no stops for groceries or other supplies. Violators can be punished with steep fines or even prison time.

The state aims to test every incoming fisher and processing worker, and it expects to secure tens of thousands of tests for that purpose, said Adam Crum, state commissioner of health and social services.

SOCAL MISMANAGEMENT - HOMELESS

Not long after L.A. County reported more than 1,000 new coronavirus cases on Friday, Davon Brown decided he was done putting himself at risk. So he put on a blazer and went to The Ritz-Carlton Los Angeles.

Joined by activists with Street Watch L.A., he told hotel staff that they were interested in renting several rooms but wanted a tour first. The concierge happily obliged, he said, and took the group to room 2221....

...With about 60,000 homeless residents, Los Angeles County is falling behind on its previously stated goal of moving them into 15,000 hotel rooms. With only about 2,200 rooms leased as of late this week, it could take until October to secure that goal.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/realestate/tell-the-hotels-they-are-commandeered-homeless-activists-are-losing-patience-with-la/ar-BB13xdPF?ocid=spartanntp

Newsom, on Mar 18, signed an EO directing $500 Million in Covid-19 response to at risk groups; $150 Million dollars to rent hotel rooms for the homeless. To date only 2,711 rooms have been leased and only 1,550 rooms are occupied.

Where’s the money, Newsom?
“Emergency Funding: Governor Newsom directed the first allocation of the $500 million in emergency funding recently authorized by the Legislature for COVID-19 related activities – $150 million for local emergency homelessness actions. To deploy this first funding allocation, the state will provide:
$100 million directly to local governments, for shelter support and emergency housing to address COVID-19 among the homeless population, and
$50 million to purchase travel trailers and lease rooms in hotels, motels, and other facilities in partnership with counties and cities to provide immediate isolation placements throughout the state for homeless individuals.”

Hospital in Paris🇫🇷 re-checked old PCRs (for the flu) from Dec 2019 to Jan 2020, this time for COVID. On 24 re-tests, one was positive (Dec 27). They think he infected is 2 children, but not his wife (or she was asymptomatic). He was sick during 2 weeks. @RolandBakerIII

China kills.

Nonsense.
Comes down to what the Western media will let China dictate to them.

Wouldn’t be that hard to ramp up and streamline nursing educations especially. Current degrees require lots of unrelated classes, time off between classes, limited study hours required per class, etc.

His reasoning may be sound, but when he starts out with the official Chinese numbers, I already begin looking at his assertions with a jaundiced eye. There might be over 100,000 dead in Hubei, with all the circumstantial evidence described earlier in this thread and others, not to mention an estimate of up to 2.9 million people afflicted.

Hopefully, his reasoning IS sound, and this thing will basically be a nothing burger in our country by summertime. But I still find him suspect for using the Chinese numbers.

I note this in the article: "More generally, he complains that epidemiologists only seem to be called wrong if they underestimate deaths, and so there is an intrinsic bias towards caution (emphasis added). “They see their role as scaring people into doing something, and I understand that… but in my work, if I say a number is too small and I’m wrong, or too big and I’m wrong, both of those errors are the same.”"
