(CNN) Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will co-chair a task force for Joe Biden's campaign on climate change, a source with direct knowledge of the planning tells CNN, a move that adds progressive credentials to the former vice president's effort to unify the party ahead of the general election.
The group is one of several task forces being formed to bridge the divide between the polices of Biden and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who ended his White House bid last month.
"I'm working with Bernie and with his people. And so, and we've made some changes. We've listened to Bernie supporters and, you know, for example, we have Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez, she is on one of the panels," Biden said Tuesday in an interview with News8 in Las Vegas. Ocasio-Cortez spokeswoman Lauren Hitt said in a statement that the congresswoman made the decision to join the task force "with members of the Climate Justice community - and she will be fully accountable to them and the larger advocacy community during this process."
"She believes the movement will only be successful if we continue to apply pressure both inside and outside the system. This is just one element of the broader fight for just policies," the statement said.
The task forces -- examining a variety of areas from the economy to criminal justice to health care -- were announced when Sanders endorsed Biden last month.

Dumb and dumber?
Gropin’ Joe Joe? Eh, I’ll roll with it...
Slow Joe made the perfect choice for climate czar ...
There goes any chance of folliwing the real science.
Gee, where on earth would Joe get the idea of having a task force?
what happened to my country when the leading presidential contender for a major party can hide in a basement for months for obvious reasons to everyone except the media and diehards?
the good thing is people do not like to vote for someone they’ve barely seen. That’s why Hillary lost Wisconsin Michigan and some other states. Not the only reason but a big part
I have said since the beginning that Donald Trump's true adversary will be the coronavirus with perhaps tens of millions out of work. Normally an incumbent president holds many advantages in such a race but the unemployment numbers could be decisive.
It is good that Biden gives OAC prominent place in his campaign because it is a possible avenue to change the subject from coronavirus back to Biden's ineptitude and the craziness of the Democrat party. Meanwhile, Trump must move more aggressively to open the country. The Democrats will stall while promising their base a $3 trillion windfall. Trump must open the country so fast that the largess so desperately needed by many voters will become obvious to enough voters that it only squanders resources and actually inhibits recovery.
The race is on: Trump can build it all back or pawn your inheritance for a mess of porridge.
Hey, she got one thing going for her: she can actually spew a coherent sentence. /s
A Biden staff member put AOC in that position. I doubt if Joe even knows who AOC is.
With her degree in economics and her vast experience in the field of tip redistribution and her stellar record on job creation in her district, I would think she would be better on the economic task force.
But either way, Biden has some great opportunities for hair sniffing with her on the team.
A new engineer for Bidens crazy train.
LOL! Good luck with that!
Sorry, brain lock.
Nothing to worry about...even death won’t stop her mouth from moving!
Wasn’t she a chemist or scientist with her BC diploma that comes on a roll?
Her expertise—she was hit in the head by a hockey stick as a child. ;-)
What did AOC do to or promise to do to Joe for this ,LOL
