O’Brien was referring to the 2019 miniseries that dramatized the 1986 explosion of a reactor at a nuclear power plant in Ukraine and the response from Soviet officials.
O’Brien added that, like Soviet officials in the 1980s, Chinese officials have covered up the extent of the pandemic -- which first surfaced late last year in Wuhan, the sprawling capital of Central China’s Hubei province – because “they kicked out all reporters and they wouldn’t let [the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] investigators come in and they’re still stonewalling investigators.”
President Trump has continually blamed China for allowing the pathogen to spread beyond its borders.
“This is a hit that came out of China,” Trump said during an interview that aired on WJLA on Sunday. “Whether we like it or not, it came out of China. It could have been stopped.”

There’s a difference. Chernobyl happened, and once the reactor went critical, it couldn’t have been stopped. Although, the Russians could have been a lot more honest about it up front. But, that wouldn’t have stopped the radiation plume once the reactor core started to melt.
China could have given the world a few weeks to a months warning and restricted travel, or recommended such. And they didn’t.
It would be comparable if the Soviet’s found a way to stop the radiation from spreading to most Russia and let it hit the rest of the world
Yep, exactly. The Chinese had a chance to mitigate the damage to the outside world. The Soviets did not.
Both went for image damage control, but only the Chinese had a time window to do something concrete, which they let pass.

It was more than “a hit.” It was an act of war. Those bastards are responsible for 100,000 U.S. deaths and I want them HELD responsible.
Maybe Corona will be the beginning of the end of the regime but I doubt it.

Not precisely true. The ChiComs did do something concrete. They blocked travel from Wuhan to the rest of China but kept it going from Wuhan to the rest of the world. Which amounts to a germ warfare weapon attack on the rest of the world.
Not only did they not use the time window for mitigation, they actively made things worse, as you say.
But I was comparing Chernobyl to COVID—and with Chernobyl there was no time to mitigate the actual event and radioactive emissions. The Chinese had time, but as you say, did negative-mitigation, i.e., enhancement of the viral spread.
