why isn’t cheating a removable offense....you know...duty, HONOR, country.

You mean like “Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity”?

It depends on what the definition of “is” is?

Free and fair elections?

Impeachment hearings?

West Point is not leading the way here.

When congress has a taxpayer funded slush fund to buy out sexual harassment complaints you know the end of the republic is not far off.

IIRC Academy cadets and midshipmen are subject to the UCMJ. If I’m correct...let the trials begin!

When I was a cadet the Honor Court was the most feared council on campus. A cadet convicted of violating the Honor Code was given the choice of resignation or expulsion.

The grim news was read over the P.A. at sunrise.

This insured I kept my eyes locked straight ahead during exams. Cheating scandals are usually conspiracies like this one, but the Code kept the honest folks honest.

What’s really sad is seeing West Point degenerate into a reflection of today’s corrupt common culture rather than the fortress of eternal values that it once was.

I’d be willing to bet that a cheater, 50 years ago, got kicked out and no shot at “rehabilitation “. Just doesn’t sound right.

> “A cadet will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do.” - I guess the cadet honor code no longer applies.

It’s 2020, man. Rules are being dropped left and right. Well, mostly left.

why not expulsion rather than a second chance for those found cheating?”

Possibly there are a good many affirmitive action candidates among their number and holding them to standards would “look bad”.

I think pictures of the cadets might answer some questions.

Boy oh boy, have standards slipped.

The Honor Code - I will not Lie, Cheat, or Steal; nor will I tolerate any that does.

There was a time, not too long ago, when every West Point cheater would be expelled as unfit for service.

Our Nation is truly lost....

West Point might as well be considered a public school. They sure seem to take punishment just as serious.

Why? Probably because they are members of a protected class (black, Queer, transexual, female, etc.). Rules only apply to white male heterosexuals.

55 cadets have admitted cheating and have been enrolled in a six-month rehabilitation program focused on ethics. They will be on probation for the rest of their time at the academy.

Incredible! In the old days, they would have been kicked out and probably given a bad-conduct discharge to boot.

Cheating is a battle tactic. We did it om D-Day. It is also an election tactic acceptable to Democrats, but only if they do it.

There is something else to consider. Harsh penalties deter future misbehavior by others. But now cheating just gets you a stint in some sort of rehab class.

That’s not much of a deterrent.

“Boy oh boy, have standards slipped.”

A guy on my dorm floor in 1980 was kicked out for cheating on a test. Yes standards have slipped.

Public University not West Point I want to clarify.

Same cure used by the FBI. Training. Works, or else they wouldn't do it, right?

When you continue to lower the standards for those who get in, this is what you get. While the Academies have had cheating scandals in the part, it appears to be more commonplace thanks to the lower standards. Since the largest category of nominations comes from congressional nominations, and you consider the total lack of ethical standards and character of most of those in Congress you understand why.

The service academies are a relic of a more honorable era of American culture and military excellence.
