Great post.

It was good to see Fields get the Lawrence-always-winning monkey off his back.

There was one point where I thought Lawrence looked like he was going to pass out from the trauma of losing so badly. He was on the sideline very late in the game when the camera panned to him. He looked like he had the vapors.

Maybe, but Northwestern didn’t beat Ohio State, so why would they have gotten to #4? Texas A&M would’ve been a better opponent for Bama.

Notre Dame got in because they have a bigger following. It’s always about the benjamins.

Except this year there were no tickets to sell and the tv adverts are sold ahead of time, so I don’t see where following makes any economic difference.

nd is overrated and played a very soft schedule as it always has.

they caught Clemson without their qb and won, but got whipped when their qb was back.

nd didn't belong in the playoffs.

Can anyone beat 'Bama?

Two teams came close this year and both threw it around the yard: Ole Miss and Florida.

IF Fields is good to go against 'Bama I expect more of the same as far as throwing it around the yard.

Bama has more talent but long TD passes from Fields could mean the difference.

The kid took a hard shot against Clemson. I know he'll get top notch rehab between now and the title game on January 11.

But whatever that injury was it will begin to tighten up.

It will be interesting to see how all this plays out.

Very true regarding Ohio State QBs. At so many other positions, though, there seem to be a good number of players throughout the NFL that have done well that came from Ohio State.

OSU beat Clemson like a runaway slave.

If it didn’t matter, then A&M would’ve been scheduled against Bama yesterday.

Their recruiting is impressive. And the “retirement” of “Suburban” Meyer didn’t seem to affect it at all.

They have guys at 3 and 4 string skill positions who realize they will never play and go on to start on other good teams.

Joe Burrow for one.

Agreed. I’d draft every position from OSU without losing a wink of sleep, except QB. They don’t even seem stick around as backups, ala AJ McCarren from Bama. Maybe Fields will break the trend.

I just hope the referees don’t decide the game. They tried hard to get Clemson back in the game last night, and somehow the Buckeyes managed to overcome that anyway.

I expect that the PTB won’t allow Ohio State to ever beat Bama again. One time it was allowed. People hated it then. I will be very surprised to see it happen again.

Texas football (both college and pro) has really fallen off.
It appears their hs studs are heading east and north.
Bama and Okla have a lot of excellent Texas players.

IMO Dabo is a good guy. I’m no Clemson fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I will tell this story about what Dabo did for a colleague of mine: While going home from a Clemson game, her son’s car was hit by a person who ran a stop sign. Her son didn’t make it. A week after the incident someone told Dabo about the accident. He took the time to write a letter from a Christian father to parents who lost their son. His words were very comforting and helped them in ways he will probably never know. They shared his letter on social media to give people who were trashing Dabo a chance to see what kind of man he was.

I am often happy to see players go to other teams where they can play instead of sitting. It was great to see Joe Burrow do so well at LSU.

He led with the crown of his helmet. In the past, that was known as spearing.

Yes, and he not only led with the crown of his helmet, he deliberately lowered his head just before the impact to drive the crown of his helmet into Field's ribs. If you were making a demo tape to train refs on the definition of spearing, that would be a perfect example. Back in the "good old days" (?) of pre-civilized football, that was the kind of thing players did deliberately to try to knock opponents out of the game. That's why, as you note, it was outlawed.

I’m a Browns fan but bummer that Joe got maimed this year in Cincy. Hopefully he can make a good recovery. Total knee blowout.

I guess you haven’t heard of Gen. Curtis LeMay or Rep. Jim Jordan? :-)

That is nice. I like good men of character. Sometimes the trash talking is really just jealousy rearing its ugly head.

I don’t watch a ton of pro football, mostly college. I missed that Joe was injured. Sounds bad.
