This is part of why I try to have lots of dog food purchased in advance. I figure if there are issues with it, it will still be under the bed in the guest room, not in the bin being fed to the dogs daily.

It’s ALWAYS good to read country of origin labels.

I was bummed to find most mandarin oranges come fro China.

When I learned that most garlic comes from there as well, I started growing my own, which is ridiculously easy and cost effective.

Now I use my own homegrown, organic garlic and I know what it’s grown in (ordinary dirt) and who’s handled it (me).

I can go pick my own and have canning jars.

It freezes beautifully, too.

Very easy to make your own.

Oh YUCK!

Actually, that's a great description :-)

Our dog is allergic to most dog foods. We found one brand of kangaroo dog food that he was good with but they stopped making it due to the fires in Australia killing so many roos.

We feed him ground beef and oatmeal, but the vet said that wasn’t the best long-term as the dog food adds in a lot of vitamins and stuff that dogs need. Who knows?

A month ago they finally started production again of his old dog food! I had 100 pounds of it stashed so that helped out some. As soon as we got the one bag I ordered three more to have on hand.

Sad. Condolences to dearly departed fur babies. Sniff.

Now, on the subject of chocolate, my 2 labs love it. After being scolded a few times about “it could kill them” I looked it up. My 90 lb. big girl would have to eat 14 lbs of chocolate in one sitting to get sick. Not that she’s not up to it (she is) but the most she gets is 1/4 of a Big Block so not more than a few ounces.

IMO the whole “chocolate is poisonous to dogs” is an old wives tale cooked up to allow old ladies to keep their chocolate to themselves.

I’m wondering where the ingredients came from.
If I remember correctly the PRCs poisoned our kids toys with lead.
Then they sold all our dog food companies poisoned dog food ingredients.
Then they sold us poisoned sheetrock after Katrina.
Now they unleashed and murderous bio weapon upon the entire world.
And what do we do, worry about a few poisoned dogs.
No wonder we are lost at this moment in time.

I suspect the
“human food is bad for dogs” thing is a plot by the dog food companies as well.

Do I have to guess how much of the Dog Food is coming from China?

Looks like something leftists would buy. Organic like stuff made in there own 4 kitchens in the USA and they’ve planted tens of thousands of trees. What that has to do with dog food, I don’t know. I’ve never seen any of their brands in a store. We get Purina Dog Chow for our old dog and MFA(Missouri Farm Association) for our LGD.

I would think that organ meats are good for animals.

They contain more nutrients than just beef.

You need the right kind of pectin for the jam to set up properly.

Stuff like Sur-Jell, you can’t increase the batch size.

With Pomona’s Universal Pectin, you can make low sugar and sugar free varieties and make as big a size batch as you want.

Applesauce, on the bright side, does not need any of that. Just mash up the apples, stick it in a jar, and process.

My daughter has four dogs, feeds them homemade chicken soup every night poured over their crunchies. Not sure what brand of crunchies, but I’ll pass this article on to her.

My cat gets Royal Canin crunchies and 1/2 can Friskies Turkey and Gravy every day. She only licks up the gravy—fine with me. She also gets bottled filtered water because our city has very dangerous chemicals in the water including lead and strontium-90.

Environmental Working Group rates vegetables and fruits on their annual Clean 15/Dirty Dozen list. You can look at all of their reports at no charge at ewg.org. They rate water; cosmetics too. Some of them have cancer-causing ingredients.

That would make sense. I was thinking of starting up fishing again and catch junk fish just to feed the dog. I can kind of see the vet’s reason with the vitamins - but wild dogs and wolves seem to do just fine without them! But like you say - they are getting all of the organs - not just the muscle meat.

I read an account once of some lady who oversaw the feeding of the seals at a zoo.

She did her best with them, carefully preparing, cleaning, and filleting the fish, and yet the seals began to show signs of nutritional deficiencies.

Turns out, seals in the wild eat the fish whole and she was actually robbing them of much needed nutrients.

She started feeding them the whole fish and they bounced right back.

All my vets have said human food, minus some dangerous things, is great for dogs. Our dogs eats half human food easily. She is in great health and the best dog we’ve ever had.
