Trump is no lifetime Republican, he’s been a Democrat for most of his life and did a hostile takeover of the GOP because he needed their machinery to launch a credible campaign.

Trump toyed with running for Perot's Reform Party nomination in 2000. Ultimately, he decided against it, but he drew the attention of the Bush family. The Billy Bush tape that aired on Access Hollywood was no happenstance.

Reagan was the most popular President in modern times winning a 49 state landslide in 1984. The GOP never liked him. So in 1988 they decided to sweep him and all his accomplishments aside. They elected George Bush I and he went to work ruining reagan's legacy. Tax hike, recession, war. Kicked out of office with prejudice but mission accomplished, Reaganism was purged from the party and the globalist hacks were back in charge.

They made a caluclation that they can do the same with Trump. There is one big difference though. Reagan had begun to succumb to his illness and had retired from public life. He could not defend himself and he was morally opposed to criticising fellow republicans anyway so they could sweep him aside without so much as a peep from him. Trump isn't going to be that easy to erase. So they are considering ways to make him shut up forever and hope in two or four years we forget he was a great president that they fought the whole time.
