Not worry, English snow will soon be a thing of the past:

“the month’s mean temperature, to May 7, is running at just 7C (44.6F) — this is a jaw-dropping 2.8C below the CET norm, and currently sees England on course to suffer its coldest May since record-keeping began back in 1659. “

No tomatoes or pepper in their gardens.

Oh well, back to cabbage and carrots.

CHILDREN JUST AREN’T GOING TO KNOW WHAT SNOW IS
Tim Blair

The Independent, 2000:

Snow is starting to disappear from our lives. Sledges, snowmen, snowballs and the excitement of waking to find that the stuff has settled outside are all a rapidly diminishing part of Britain’s culture, as warmer winters – which scientists are attributing to global climate change – produce not only fewer white Christmases, but fewer white Januaries and Februaries … Global warming, the heating of the atmosphere by increased amounts of industrial gases, is now accepted as a reality by the international community … According to Dr David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit of the University of East Anglia, within a few years winter snowfall will become “a very rare and exciting event”. “Children just aren’t going to know what snow is,” he said

I have not had a day below 75deg in a month.

It was sunny and 92 today. It will cool all the way down to 60 tonight.

It might be a bit early on May 7 to call for the coldest May in over 300 years, but it is chilly here in central USA.

Actually, here in SW Wisconsin we are ENJOYING SPRING! It warmed up for a while with a few near-80 days, but now it’s been reliably 60’s during the day and 40’s at night - with a few Frost Warnings, as we’re having tonight.

For WAY too long we’ve have one or two days of Spring, then have gone STRAIGHT to Hot & Humid - which everyone just loves. NOT! :)

BUT - if you’re planting veggies and flowers that aren’t frost tolerant right now, you’re just asking for trouble, so it’s on you!

Also - Solar Minimum, Anyone?

Also - Probably Trump’s fault. *SMIRK*

This is really going to be devastating to The World in General because isn’t almost ALL of our food grown in England? Don’t they call it, ‘The Breadbasket?’ Aren’t they the world’s largest oil producer? Oh, wait...they make micro-chips for computers, Right? Maybe Plastics? Cars? They make a lot of cars, Right? Airplanes? Drugs?

Everyone PANIC! Oh, wait. Maybe not. ;)

NOTE: The UK’s top exports are mechanical machinery (14%); cars (10%); electrical machinery (8%); medicinal/pharmaceutical products (8%); crude oil (6%); aircraft (5%); other miscellaneous manufactures (5%); scientific/photographic (4%); and refined oil (3%).

The good news is, food shortages have a way of culling causes like CRT - those causes just don’t seem as important when your stomach is empty.

Did they actually have reliable thermometers in 1659 or did divining the temperature involve gutting a chicken or something?

Just as stupid humans are getting rid of the most dense energy sources, we have a new “maunder minimum.”

“Perhaps it is the sun after all....”

There has never been a doubt in my mind.

It might have been why people worshiped the Sun many years ago.
The Sun is God’s design, live with it and understand and praise His wisdom.

“God has a real sense of humor”

I don’t know; maybe He’s experiencing chronic double-face-palm.

“Humans. Oy.”

It’s CLIMATE CHANGE! See? It doesn’t just mean warmer, it means more extremes! Lower temps? Climate change! See? All caused by humans and CO2.
Why can’t you people see the truth! Cooler climates, causing warming, are actually causing climate change, which is causing global cooling, all caused by humans and CO2!
The science is settled! Why can’t you Neanderthals understand that!?

This is the coldest spring I can remember in my 34 years in Atlanta. Tomorrow the high temp is forecast at 56 degrees and 58 on Thurs. It should be 80. My garden is totally stunted because its not hot enough.

Readings from that long ago are suspect. In 1659 how accurate were the thermometers?
