I liked it. Lancaster playing a man drawn to a woman he thinks is his sister; Murphy playing a drunken bigot; Hepburn an Indian maiden; Gish playing piano out on the boundless plain.
They all seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Idris Alba as Heimdahl the WHITE... He’s a good actor, but the political/racial statement was ham-handed and unnecessary.

Olivier’s dark face performance in Khartoum as the Mahdi at first seemed over the top but as the movie progressed the inherent fundamental Islamic madness of the character was more clearly delineated in his excellent performance.

Someone had to dig hard to find those. I would be proud of having Sir Laurence Olivier acting for my race.

The race baiting never ends with leftists.

Some people have way too much time on their hands to find stupid things like this to complain about. If you are good in your role, I could care less if you are protraying a black, white, etc.

Wes Studi narrated one of my TV documentaries and I really enjoyed working and hanging out with him in Santa Fe. He’s a great guy and I think you’d like him very much; he knows the Cherokee history and is one of the few who can speak the language, fluently.

The White Actors still played their roles FAR better, than ANY Black actors ever played characters that were originally White. As proof of their untalentedness.

Charleton Heston was not miscast. There are Mexicans in the upperclasses who come from German, Spanish, or French ancestry that have never intermarried with the native populations.

"The Party", with Peter Sellers playing an Indian, was recommended to me by an Indian (Asian not American) friend who found it hilarious. As did I.

In British shows, which I watch almost exclusively, it’s ridiculous. In Midsomer Murders they dumped the creator because he wasn’t changing the nature of the little Cotswolds towns. Immediately afterwards, the towns were populated by people of all colors who had never been seen before.

I always think of King Lear which I saw with Ian McKellen in 2018 in London. One of his three daughters was black. She did a great job,. It just seemed out of place, though.

I could never take this movie seriously with John Wayne as Genghis Khan with a Southern Drawl:

Supposedly he was forced by the studio to do the picture so he stayed drunk while doing it. Also there was above ground atomic testing being done ‘nearby’ relatively speaking. Dust from the test supposedly fell on the actors, crew, & production company. Many died late in life of cancer.

More likely his smoking had as much to do with it as anything.

Please.

Apologies for use of hyperbole to make the point. The word "Even" before "Lord Olivier" was intended to convey utmost respect. "Cringe" was the hyperbole. Although his acting in films was sometimes, as you stated, over-the-top for that medium. Richard Burton in an interview once stated that his wife Elizabeth Taylor taught him to pull back and be more understated for film. Olivier, the greatest stage actor of his generation, never seemed to adapt completely to film. Just my personal opinion.
