A 3 volt transistor or IT circuit has a lot less tolerance of voltage fluctuations and surges than a 12 volts-or higher voltage-- vaccum tube. Same with smaller IT electrical components.

Well, just glad you stopped by the thread! We have to post the headline as the author gives it. In this case, the author writes for Space Weather so his focus is more with atmospheric effects like the Nuclear aurora and how it affects the Van Allen belt and Magnetosphere. He was reporting the article regarding testing of impedance or current flow and EMPs.

An aside; I once worked customer service in the back office of a Financial Services company, and I took a call and spoke to the the Grandson of Oliver Heaviside, one of the 2 “discoverers” of the Kennelly/Heaviside layer!

Modern science are calling them “methane holes” caused by melting permafrost due to climate change.

Its amazing how arcane that view is. The holes are over 30 meters across and some seem to have occurred over the last 7 years or so.

The forces involved are not from melt. If so there would be far smaller versions to accompany the larger itterations. This is something else altogether.

The electric universe theory is far more plausible, but such an event must ne observed.They seem to happen very quickly in remote areas.
