We owe the Founding Fathers an apology for then sticking their necks out and like spoiled rotten children we squandered what was given to us. “A Republic, if you can keep it”. Well we couldn’t and now as we descend into anarcho-socialism we reap what we have sown via our complacency and cowardice.

They may drive, but they’re ignorant of the real effects of this tax, and the media and Big Tech are making sure they stay that way.

They all think it applies to somebody else, you know, that evil rich Republican person who is driving all over the country.

Not secret any more. But of course the media will deliberately and intentionally NOT tell the brain-dead American public.

It was never a secret to anyone except the EV people that thought they could avoid road tax that we pay through gasoline taxes. Now we can get a double dose until we switch to EV as well.

Shit.

Sorry Rick.

I have a late model luxury sedan. It does two thinks. It communicates with the manufacturer (App, map other updates) and has a “black box,” to collect data which is not easily accessible.

Shit.

3 of our 4 cars have no GPS.

Most car insurance providers already require that you report milage on your odometer once a year. I suspect every care manufactured in the last twenty years already records in their onboard computers, more than you want to know about your car.

Of course.

Gas drivers will pay both, plus installation fees / penalties.

They’ll mandate cars that the grid can’t support, without turning off those Smart Meters Obama rolled out.

Blackouts for homes.

A perfect case in point has been the ongoing effort by the trucking industry to increase size and weight limits on the U.S. highway system. That issue has been studied to death, and has gone nowhere.

I suppose that is why we now see many trucks hauling three trailers?

Does that mean that a government agent will inspect my odometer ever so often?

The biggest hurdle to a "mileage tax" on any geographic scale is going to be the enormous cost of collecting the revenue.

Do you have a smart electric meter on your house? Most electric companies now require them, I avoid it but pay a 50 dollar monthly fee for that privilege. I am sure that will only last for a little while longer and they will just change it then they can tell exactly how many miles would be on your electric car, maybe any car after they actually have two way communications function installed in your electric source.

There's nothing in Congress's constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers that would reasonably (imo) justify taxing drivers by the mile.

How charming, we still have Freepers that think the Constitution still matters. Rights belong to those that can and do defend them.

This idea has been around for several years in Federal Transportation Planning. Back when it first reared it’s ugly head the main problem was trying to track vehicle mileage and then subtract out the out state driving for border cities.

Oregon has had a pilot program for a few years now.

The next big thing is do the give up the Fed and state gas taxes. But something tells me they will want to double dip.

How about we simply charge subway riders the true cost of their trip? I’m tired of my highway/gasoline tax monies going to SEPTA (Philly) while the bridges and highways I drive everyday crumble.

Just guessing here, but I’m thinking
they’ll leave the tracking to the
insurance companies using the OBD
port on your vehicle. The insurance
companies have that technology in
place. Most vehicles built before
1996 do not have OBD.

My insurance company (State farm) doesn’t ask for the odometer reading.
