When I found out that there are only two train routes on Earth that make a profit, and those are in Japan where they have people whose job is to squish as many people in each car, then I knew it was all a scam.

Why isn't the NY subway system making a profit after all of these years? There's no need to build more tunnels, etc. All they have to do is run and maintain the trains.

Truly a ripoff.

I’ve been to Germany and except for the City Centers, they have really nice roads. And nice cars. They should be driving.

Probably has made a profit; but it only gets reported as a “surplus”.

Originally when part of the private sector, the subway was supposed to transport passengers during the day and ship freight at night. There were even Long Island RR electric passenger cars built to IRT dimensions (the MP41) because it was intended to have the Atlantic Avenue line run past Flatbush Avenue into Manhattan on the IRT tracks and serve Nassau County that way, i.e. before Penn Station opened.

Do you fly commercially? You do realize that 99% of The time a commercial jet is flown by computers right. If You fly from class III airports such as DFW, JFK, Denver or Atlanta the take offs and landings can and nearly always are completely under computer control. The only pilot direct control for a DFW to KFK route can be taxiing to the threshold of the take off runway and engaging the autopilot to touch down and roll out can and often is 100% computer flown. If you fly on an Airbus the pilots have zero direct control of the aircraft let me repeat that they have ZERO direct control of the aerodynamic surfaces that fly the plane nor do they have any direct mechanical links to those surfacws. Airbus is 100% fly by wire with no mechanical back up not direct overrides. The pilots ask the triple redundant computers to move the control surfaces with side stick control inputs , peddles and throttles but the computers then decide if the pilots are right and take action after the three computers vote and agree on it. The computers can and do.override the pilots inputs. Pilots on an Airbus are a formality with modern satellite links Airbus could replace the pilots with a drone communication link in a matter or hours thst simply need to wire the drone link inputs to the computers input ports since the pilots also only send control requests the computers wouldn’t even know the difference in the source of the requests.

You may have misheard that (unless you changed it intentionally)... the song lyric is “Fahr’n fahr’n fahr’n auf der Autobahn” (fahr’n = fahren: to drive).

I know about autopilot; not the same thing as an “autonomous” land vehicle. Crews can assume human control if needed. (In retrospect, perhaps an extreme emergency feature could have stopped 9/11.)

There is no reason for an autonomous road vehicle except to take away control from the driver. There is very limited to no capability to prevent accidents, and plenty of potential to cause accidents.

Thanks for sharing! I had that one wrong all my life.

Yes, but it was meant as a play on the Beach Boys’ “Fun Fun Fun”.
