Hunger strikes don't last forever. The 'activists' should use their phones and order up a schnitzel or two.

They think they are channeling Gandhi.
It worked for Gandhi (and doesn't for others) because --
1) The British knew Gandhi had enough self discipline to starve himself to death.
2) If Gandhi had died it would have unleashed violence all over India.
