In how many of these other cases did the missing person go on vacation with a fiancé, contact loved ones from various locations on the trip, then disappear while the betrothed comes back without her, goes on the lam, while his parents behave in a way that suggests they’re helping him evade authorities?

Everyone wants to criticize both the coverage and the public interest while they ignore the unusual circumstances that set this case apart.

Maybe the Laundrie man is going around saying goodbye to all his conquests before he goes to the pokey.

Too bad his parents didn’t name him Dirty or Matt.

A couple of thoughts. Except for the detectives, who are generally overwhelmed with cases, the rest of any law enforcement department are just clerks who wear guns. I don’t mean to disparage law enforcement, but filing reports and writing tickets for revenue is their job. Because of all the cop shows which deal exclusively with the exceptions to the rule, we tend to believe that cops are out patrolling the streets in search of crime. Not true..

The volume of all those reports means that hardly any of them receive any attention. It’s like the problem of the Soviet KGB. The KGB was inundated with transcripts and recordings from bugs in hundreds of citizens homes. How could they possibly listen to the tapes or read the transcripts?

I did some searching for just the city of Tallahassee, Florida. Fifteen years ago the number of reported incidents ran into the dozens per day. Plus, there was a large number of bodies, almost all due to natural causes. But, every unattended death MUST, by law, be “investigated.” When my mother died in Hospice care at 102 I got a call. I wasn’t anywhere near Tampa when she fell and the “investigator” just took my word about the circumstances of the fall even though I kept saying that my sister was there and he should call her. Nope. Never called her. The report, while not fiction, was ridiculously inadequate to be called an “investigation.” Somebody took my word, which was hearsay, and wrote it down verbatim but changed it so it read as if I was a witness. Also, my entire family “benefited” financially as Mom left everything to us. This is the level of “investigation,” probably, because there are a couple of dozen people dying in huge places like Tampa every day.

So, along comes a missing person’s report. Oh, yeah, block off the city and start going door-to-door. Even if the focus on law enforcement was investigation instead of code enforcement, there are not enough of them to perform the legally required work.

When JFK Jr's plane crashed off the coast of Martha's Vineyard, basically every naval vessel or aircraft in the region descended upon the coast to search for his plane.

I remember hearing that someone else's aircraft was also missing that weekend. In an interview with a related family member, he was basically angry and frantic because nobody was looking for his loved one. The guy basically said "I get that it's JFK Jr, but can they spare maybe one or two ships or planes to search for MY family member?"

I don't remember what happened to the other missing person.

“I’ve recently found and have been listening to Michael Franzese’s YouTube channel. He’s an old time NY mobster that has reformed and now conducts a prison ministry. He has a pretty conservative bent on politics, and is pretty open about his mob life.”

Oh, yea - I like his channel a lot too. Found it about 6 months ago and I watch it regularly. Very interesting guy.

Add 5 more to the COVID tally just to be safe. Even if the bodies test negative it is with a high degree scientific evidence that these persons would have gotten it eventually, so it should count.

Killers abound

I am friendly with a criminal attorney in rural Tennessee

A very good one...powerful in his region

He confided in me without naming client of course that when he told one to come clean about any dirt out there...while preparing for trial.....the guy proceeded to tell him about 17 murders he committed in the area over 45 years in detail in disputes he’d had with fellow rural gangsters

The guy was your typical rural southern video poker room behind the convenience store , bootleg , weed grower, prostitution at the roadhouse, rural strip club , car theft chop shops , farm equipment theft , arms trader etc hillbilly criminal

My buddy was like man I wish he’d never told me....I promise he wonders if he should kill me now. I said you better get him off or plea down to something he can handle.

He did.....the guy is in. Nursing home now....80

That taught me yes people do get away with killing....

Add in her video blog and the number of people following along on their trip before she went missing. Another point that raises interest. Many felt they 'knew' her.

It's a "popular" and widespread search.

Cadaver dogs, more widespread than ever, are being worked hard. I'm not surprised, and expect more to turn up.

“Hoffa”

My dad grew up in detroit and believed he was in the trunk of a car that went thru a crusher, then into a furnace

Drug addicts, the mentally ill and homeless runaways murdered on a whim.

People “whacked” by gangsters for various reasons.

People on the run, or the mentally ill, who decided on their own to disappear into the wilds, and then died from exposure, disease, accidents, etc.

A lot of women, foster kids, and homeless disappear every year.

Few make the news because few are known.

it’s a sad state of affairs, but it’s a fact that thousands of men and women are basically forgotten by society, walking zombies living on the streets, homeless, drug addicted, the women especially are vulnerable to psychos who will rape and kill them and no one cares....

************************************************************

I’ve often thought that the NSA must have the same problem namely.......”Information Overload”. So, you have billions of phone calls and taped conversations, for any action to be taken, someone has to listen to it.

I know a former US attorney.

He said they believed that the majority of serial killers never get caught. They prey on the forgotten people.
