There is a bigger problem looming which no one is mentioning : with the slowness of the unloading, fewer containers are returning to ports of origin making a future bottleneck ; no containers, no shipping.
Ironbottom Sound off Orange County?
I keep saying we need to dig a canal across our southern border. It would be a wall that would pay for itself. Screw the enviromentalists.
AB5 = As Backwards
Indeed another California ruling gone stupid.
Sort of like when the government starts fining private companies for not moving containers out of the ports when there are already no truck drivers to move the container.
As understand it, both the waiting ships and truck get fined. Those trucks that can access CA ports are also waiting for loads sometimes days. Its not the lack truck drivers so much as CA regulation banning whole fleets of company and independent trucks. Two other factors : Lack of drivers to haul loads shows up in rail yards; at warehouses where lack of people to unload tucks creates backlogs.
The while JIT system is FUBARed
Legislatures here in CaCaLAnd could not care less about adverse effects of their laws. They are re-elected on the basis of passing laws and pushing regulations (on the other guys), the effectiveness is never measured.
So long as laws and regs increase state revenue, they are golden.
Because it is illegal to do so.
The USPS is a government created (and therefore legal) monopoly for delivering first class mail.
I remember a news story from probably 30 years ago of some guy in New York city who started a business delivering first class mail between highrise offices in downtown undercutting the post office rates. It didn't take USPS long to shut him down and put him out of business.
Lol, the idea has my vote!
Well, let’s think about this; load the 20 wide container ships with product that’s east coast and eastern U.S. bound and send them through the canal, continue to send the 24 wide container ships to LA and Long Beach. Would that work for you?

Not me. It just a matter if it would work for the ships and the shipping companies. Ask around what TEU various ports can handle. Ask the companies if its a profitable routing.
Then ask the rail lines to haul the freight to destinations that do not have truckers to haul it ; ask the warehouses that do not have the workers to unload the trucks ; ask FJB to stop paying people to stay home; ask the ghoul Falsi to stop the covid mandates and madness. Let’s go Brandon!
Lol, you should be in politics. No solutions just talk.

Yeah your solutions are fairy dust. I’m just stating the facts. Troll someone else.
You know what would be a hoot? all of the truckers and trucking companies make a formal statement to the effect that “we are not making any runs or deliveries to you idiots until you change your stupid laws. That’s right, no deliveries of any kind. Enjoy your eco-paradise, morons.
But Future President Gavin isn't thinking of China, here. The California legislature is 100% beholden to the Green Left and the public employee unions - these groups get whatever they want no matter what downstream effects occur. A Donald Trump might have gone as far as to Federalize and militarize the ports of LA and Long Beach by now - but the Biden Administration, already living in terror of the inevitable Great Green Walkout - does not dare.
Naw, no need when I’ve got you, lol 😂
The shipment time and costs of going from Shanghai to the east-coast ports are roughly twice what they are for going to the west-coast ports. The costs going via CA have finally gotten high enough that there are some shipments going that way - though the costs to go from CA to TX/FL/NY are only slightly less than going from Shanghai to those east-coast ports, so only new shipments would be rerouted.
Someone posted an illuminating graphic a few weeks ago.
Thanks, only new shipments makes sense.
Possible? There is 1 reason and only one reason! All semi’s under their EPA rules cannot be over 3 years old to enter the port authority. This is totally California rigged. Send in the military and take over the ports as national security sites.
