It's a song by someone looking from the outside into Christianity. There's an obscure Bible verse (sarcasm): "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."

We sin and continue to sin. It is the blood of Christ that cleans that stain of sin....

Of course, I'm not a pastor so what do I know. Just a humble sinner....

Don’t forget...about that time in USA there was the “Jesus” movement...so there were songs coming out with Christian themes...don’t forget Jesus Christ, Superstar play and movie and Godspell...hijacked Christian theology..neglecting salvation from sin and eternal separation from God.

Some great restaurants in the area. Mrs L worked at a few of them.

Spirit in the Sky is the #1 one-hit wonder ofthe 1970s? I thought that was Stairway to Heaven? (Laughs at Zeppelin fans, then ducks for cover.)

(Just kidding: Immigrant Song rocks. Sorta like Kashmir.)

The “greatest”? Now that’s a laugh.

The rest of the album that song was on DID really suck though.

I have the Shaggs album somewhere in the stacks. Got turned on to them by Irwin of WFMU. Played a lot of outsider music.

Let's not forget the inimitable one-man band "The Haze" (Hasil Adkins)

Sorry, the greatest one hit wonder of that era is In a gadda davida by Iron Butterfly (the long version).

Ted Templeman produced a LOT of very high quality albums - VH, Little Feat/Lowell George, Doobies, Nicolette Larson, Van Morrison, Carly Simon...just to name a few.

He often produced at the VERY iconic Sunset Studios where The Doors recorded their early albums....and just a 5-minute drive from my front door many moons ago.

Fun Fact: He was lead singer/guitarist for a one-hit wonder group (Harpers Bizarre) for their hit “Feelin’ Groovy”.
