Bogart didn’t do that.

Yeah he did. When he found out he had throat cancer he switched from unfiltered cigarettes to filtered cigarettes!

Best Sherlock ever? Its a mystery.

I quite fancied Jeremy Brett as a traditional Holmes. But the way the screen writers brought Holmes and Watson into modern times was brilliant indeed.

I quit cold turkey March 22, 1988 after smoking a pack a day for 8 years. Never wanted another.

Early Jeremy Brett before he gained weight. Best Sherlock. Cumberbatch is probably second best although some of the writing goes too far off the reservation.

“Benedict Cumberbatch has revealed that he would make Donald Trump disappear if equipped with the same powers as Doctor Strange, the character he plays in the movie of the same name.”

He’s quite the Trump hater. Has a history of not being able to help himself when he goes on talk shows.

He sucked 5hit as Sherlock Holmes. I say this having read the entire Adventures of Sherlock Holmes at least three times.
Benedict Cumberbatch is very much an “Oh look at ME” over the top actor. Not a talent from what I have seen so far.

For classic Holmes, Brett’s turn in his first series is unmatched. He was hard to watch in his last as his illness consumed him.

Douglas Wilmer did the character great credit in the mid-60s, IMHO.

Vasily Livanov was also a fine Holmes for a series of movies made in the Soviet Union in the early-to-mid-80s.

Basil Rathbone was a great Holmes, too. I’m sorry that I had forgotten.

Agree. The best Sherlock ever. Perfectly captured the edgy genius of Holmes, including the “7% solution”.

Absolutely. Jeremy Brett was the best Sherlock ever and more accurately portrayed the books. The newer Holmes, while entertaining, is not accurate.

Jeremy Brett. Best ever Sherlock Holmes.

The great niece of Conan Doyle even said so.
