Not sure what your post adds to that.

You wrote that the song is about a Galvestonian fighting in the Spanish-American War. When he returns to Galveston after the war concludes, he and his lady love had better make plans to clear out. If they're still in Galveston 25 months after the war ended, they will be very, very, very sorry.

Take it up with Jimmy Webb.

Jimmy Webb is still around. Perhaps he could write a sequel to "Galveston" about how the soldier and his lover settled down in Galveston--and how they coped with what happened two years later.

He’s easily accessible on FB. Have at it. Why are you quizzing me about it? Not every popular song was written to meet your historical standards. I know that’s hard to believe, but it’s true. Songs are written to make money, not record history.

Thanks for posting this one. Glen looks sharp here - strong voice, throwing in some healthy kicks on the solo, and looks really happy to be up there. Nobody like him.

I had to skip past the Toby Keith and Etheridge parts.

You're the one who said that "Galveston" was written to record history.

Wichita Lineman is one of my favorite All-time songs.

Being a fan of the USC Trojans, despite their underachievement this year, I like football songs, and "Wichita Lineman" is one of the great football songs of all time.

A group of session musicians, including an uncredited Glen Campbell, waxed this tune under the name Saggitarius. It only reached #67 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, but in my opinion, it's one of the best songs of the late sixties.

My World Fell Down--Sagittarius (1967)

Galveston is an anti-Vietnam War song—and you know it! Glen Campbell, Jane Fonda and other leftist glitterati undermined our war effort and contributed to the Communist takeover of Southeast Asia and the subsequent murder of millions of innocent pelple.

Notice that the singer refers to his weapon as his “gun,” so the song could not have been written by a veteran but probably by some hippie who scribbled it as he smoked his joints. It makes me sick to see this adulation for these balloon-brained leftist “celebrities” on a conservative website.
