Actually, that is rule #1.
If they are calling for bad weather conditions. And you don’t really need to go out in it. Don’t.
My variation from list.
Military issue poly long johns. I can nearly stay cozy warm in them and a summer sleeping bag..into the 40s.
Extra wool socks.
I think they mentioned wool cap? Wool blanket. Big fan of wool.
Smallish camp pan.plasic forks and spoons.extrs Packs condiments from various restaurants.😁
Dehydrated foods. Dried eggs.bacon bits.corn bread stuffing mix.
Extra lighters.
Powered drink mixes. Might as well have a couple niceties.
Playing cards.crossword puzzles.
Several power chargers.
Couple larger tarps and extra cord is good to have, too.
Also,
Don’t wear socks when you sleep.
Including if you use a layer of mylar in a bag or under a blanket.
Your body warmth will keep you warmer without socks.
A campfire? lol
You’re stranded in the middle of a snowed-in traffic jam.
If you don’t have a load of firewood in the back of your vehicle you’re probably not going to have much luck building a campfire.
There’s a giant stove under the hood of your car. Use it.
I did say..if you are able to. Not sure what the exact scenario is. And how long you might be stuck.
Otherwise,it is possible to build a fire in the snow.
Although it is work.
Have to lay smaller logs on top of the snow first.
There are plenty of dead standing trees in most woods.
Scrounge for fuel, sit in the snow exposed to the elements and build a fire is better than stay in the vehicle where you are dry and out of the wind?
I truly wish that you never have to prove that.
No one does..I think that was my first post on this thread.
Rule #1 don’t go out in bad weather if you don’t have to.
Otherwise, some people’s jobs depend on it.
EMTs,rescue,and other emergency responders.
Some people, like myself, amateur, do it just to be prepared and or test the limits.
And also..you get a sense, and an appreciation, for what the original settlers went through.
No hospitals. No restaurants or grocery stores every 20 or 30 miles.
Nowadays people panic when their battery runs out on their cell phones.
And I don’t blame them ..if they get stuck in the middle of nowhere without their phones. Suddenly it occurs to them they might be in trouble.
