I never watch The View. Is there a disclaimer in the credits that the opinions of the panel are independent of the owners / employers? I mean, in what ads I’ve seen for the show, it seems to me it is marketed as providing antagonistic, provocative, or controversial, to somebody, opinions and discussions.
If OTOH the hosts are NOT free to speak their minds, foolish as some of those views may be, then they are just mouthpieces of the Company, in this case subject to public humiliation if they go the slightest bit astray, and even if they apologize.
The latter seeming to be the case, I wonder if any of the viewers will notice, or care?
Modern science regards race as a social construct, an identity which is assigned based on rules made by society.
This is the same sort of poppycock that leads to "women" who are actually men, etc.
I’m ambivalent
Free speech is about that which folks don’t like including the worst
In a pure sense if one views race as I do meaning Caucasian , Negroid or Sub Saharan blacks, Mongoliod and perhaps Australiod or Aboriginal and all the overlapping therein .....including biological differentiations then Whoopie was technically correct
However the Nazis harped incessantly on master race rhetoric meaning themselves naturally and while they accepted Scandinavians and Anglo Saxons and apparently Romans ....they eschewed Slavs and Jews and Roma and so forth as inferior races ....which technically are ethnicities
I think what kills Whoopie is several fold ...one she diminished Jewish suffering in the Holocaust which is obviously a serious mistake especially in her line of work.
Second she doubled down on her notion that only blacks can be victims of racism.
It’s funny watching the progressives tangle up over racism give the accusation is their favorite arrow in the quiver.
We have not much actual racism today except that against demonized white patriarchal oppressors and a bit towards Israeli self determination which is of course another irony meets contradiction sandbox
The redress about racism and the obsession over it is deafening and far more destructive than actual racism today.
I firmly believe that Hitlers excesses....which were many has rendered Christian western civilization in the following decades incapable of preserving itself due to the readymade excuse it gives our enemies to use the freedoms we’ve provided them to destroy us basically simply for revenge and envy .
I grew up before this took the firm hold it now has
Even though Nazis atrocity was much more recent in my youth it had yet to be used as the tool it is now after steady inundation
We can all name Treblinka and Dachau and Auschwitz and Buchenwald and so on from imprinted memory
Yet how many can name even one of the Gulag camps...where many more perished or the places where Mao exterminated 150-200 million
Some atrocities whether racial or ideological are more emphasized than others ....but that doesn’t mean they are more important
It’s a hot mess.
I also notice Behar seems to be enjoying this ....not a cozy bunch are they...
Unfortunately for Whoopi the Nazis thought that everything they did was based on race and they weren’t the slightest bit shy about saying so.
Race just wasn’t a white vs black issue for them because Europe had virtually no blacks. Whoopi being a Hollywood scholar likely has no idea of what Europe’s pre WWII demographics were like or what the Nazi’s thought constituted a race.
The Nazi Party didn’t invent the racial theories that they preached, their contribution was turning them into genocide. I ran across some forgotten German character maybe 20 years older than Hitler who was preaching Aryan and Germanic tribalism, master race stuff, and it sounded just like what the Nazis would later adopt. I don’t remember that guy advocating murder, I think it was just the Aryan supremacy idea.
And these racial theories probably weren’t invented by the Germans anyway, some of this stuff had been bubbling up in post Civil War New England where eugenics was becoming popular among the highly educated. I think Louis Aggasiz of Harvard was a proponent of “scientific racism”. And before Aggasiz there was the Frenchman Georges Cuvier.
No argument here, but I never raised it.
The key word you used was “error”.
I suppose that in the light of who’s her boss, or “modern science”, her opinion was an “error”. ;-)
Not trying to pick a fight - just pointing out a different perspective.
