I thought the geese were supposed to be away from Canada at this time of year?
They can start with the Canadian democrat geese that hand around my pond. All they do is beg for food and crap everywhere. Yeah I feel sorry for them and toss out some chicken feed.
I thought the geese came down here for winter...
Their honking can’t be heard this far away.
I wonder if anyone’s bothered to test geese for covid.
People tend to imagine that the geese that fly down toward Texas are the same ones that fly up to the Arctic Circle but that isnt true.
The most Southern migrating geese only fly approximately as far North as I live (roughly same latitude as Ottowa). Those that migrate to the edge of the Arctic only come down to about that same line in the winter.
Some geese seem to have caught on and just live in the local area and are not migratory.
Those groups are pretty well recognized by researchers but I would argue that there is actually a 4th group.
The “locals” stay in the area but are distinctly different from those I would refer to as the urbanized geese. These “urbanized” geese are also non-migratory but behave differently.
Ive posted on other threads about how smart geese can be. Ive probably mislead some to believe that Im claiming that they can understand and incorporate human language or that they can decipher puzzles like some other birds but this is not so. Geese have advanced social skills they use within the flock.
The urbanized geese can take this a step farther and seem to somehow understand that there are rules to living in town that are different and they interact differently than those that merely live at the same latitude but outside of human settlements. I suspect that there are actually different cultures, as far as birds can develop “culture”, that are created in each of these locations. Its obvious that these geese understand when someone has broken the rules of this humanized goose society but I wont bore you with more ramblings on geese learned from a lifetime of observing them closely.
Not related to your post but since Im rambling anyway and I just feel the need to comment...
From time to time Ill run across some post by some Freeper with a posting history that shows that they are for all intents and purposes a distracted coward. They have the nerve to cast dispersions on their fellow citizens for being too comfortable to “rise up” and “do something” about problems. I really want to blast them. Then Ill run across threads like this that confirm exactly how cowardly and pampered much of our urban population has become. Then Im glad I bit my tongue because its obvious that there is a percentage of the population that we certainly cant rely on as it wouldnt be fair for the rest of us to expect them to ruin their manicures.
I get that you are joking but I wouldnt doubt it someone found that avians could get it only because the sandhill cranes had been acting in a very strange manner last year.
Im not sure how the geese told the dog that the humans were in charge but the dog already knew that which is why he was afraid with confusion in how the humans would react to any action he chose.
Normally dogs that know the rules also know that they are higher in the pack than the geese but the geese (and other stock) are also extended members of the pack not to be harmed by them.
What an idiot Trudeau is.
I LOVE eating the Devils spawn then.
I love you Bee.
You must be a honkey
