Much as I am in accord with the sentiment and practicality, this is federal overreach, no?
As another Freeper mentioned, why not change school hours if the concern is child safety. No matter how you cut it, northern regions will undergo significant shift in the amount of sunlight each day. Why not enjoy the variety while leaving the clock alone?
Sadly, a rather large portion of the people i this country that are completely at peace because of this bill.
Gas, inflation, taxes, open borders, a vegetable for a President……MEH…..who cares about that? I don’t have to change my clock twice a year anymore. Yippee. Time to pop some bottles.
I look at it as a way to “manage” daylight to the hours most people are awake. I like it and don’t mind changing the clocks, but it isn’t perfect and I can see why some people might not like it. There is a loooong but pretty good article on the subject on Wikipedia. Interestingly enough, some farmers have opposed it, especially dairy farmers, because their cows’ milking schedule did not change with the new clock time.
I remember the rockets. Never heard about the email or the life saving decision on the time.
That’s a possibility. They would probably have to consider how a change would affect after-school activities, since they would be pushed later in the day.
Most Americans are Vitamin D deficient. More sunshine = more time to absorb more Vitamin D. 👍
Yes, we weren’t sure whether to laugh or groan.
Were you on CPATT?
I was in the IZ working security for the do-gooders at the State Dept and USAID.
Businesses just switch from “9 to 5” to an “8 to 4” workday.
Problem solved!
The federal overreach happened when DST was instituted in the first place.
This is just undoing it.
Elementary kids will get on the bus in the morning while it is still dark?
That happened when my kids were in grade school in the mid 90s at one time of year or another. Dark and stars out when waiting for the bus. I don’t remember which season it was, other than it was there.
My solution to that would be to change the times the kids start school, but my husband reminds me that when both parents work, which is the norm these days, then the work day starts later. The school schedule has been set by working parents who complain to the school board, methinks.
I just want to stay on standard time or savings time. I don’t care which. My body has always hated the time change. Twice a year folks! Let’s just stick with one of them, and stop the clock changing. It’s ludicrous.
That’s probably why it appeals to Democrat politicians.
High noon will no longer be at noon.

All those sundials will be permanently wrong.
Kind of like the Y2K panic.
Sundials.
Changing school hours alone doesn’t change the work hours for working parents. Businesses would have to change their work hours, too.
Try moving from the Western edge of Eastern to the Eastern edge of Central: KY to AL. It’s a blast!
I noticed that.
There are several states that have weird time zone boundaries carved into them.
