There is no ‘vegan trend’...its the Lefty idiots doing a ‘vegan push’.....and given simple human nature in that most peeps hate to be forced or told to do something, its being rejected, wholeheartedly. Leave such as a personal choice, but as par, Lefties dont understand or even remotely fathom the idea of personal choice.....

It’s truly sad to see the useful idiots on this site tirelessly trying to accelerate this effort.

I take umbrage at your reference to people "on this site". The people who want you to eat only plants are not "on this site". Just because people are allowed to join and post on Free Republic doesn't make them "useful idiots on this site". You are trolling people who are actually "on this site". Go to some other forum on the internet to complain about useful idiots.

$335 (before tip) for a cortege of microscopic “courses” at all-vegan Eleven Madison Park

Who would drop $300+ on a plate of bean curds?

I got into reverse-searing.

So you put it in the oven at 225 for maybe 50 min or so then take it out and sear it over a really hot grill for maybe a minute a side, or less.

It’s our new thing!

Hey

One McDonald’s I go to the double cheeseburger 🍔 is cheaper than the single cheeseburger.

Or at least it was.

It’s among 2 of the most reasonable-priced McD’s in my immediate area.

“dehumanization that is the precursor to ethnic violence.”

I have definitely noticed this and it is alarming. I point it out to everyone around me that will listen.

As far as the useful idiots on this site... there are a lot of bad actors and lie brokers that attempt to influence public thinking for nefarious purposes. They make their way into the forums. I suspect they hijack dormant accounts to make it look like they have been around a while. Freaking body snatchers.

I disagree with some poster’s assessments of what constitute the greatest, most imminent threats to our Country and culture and suspect that their contrary assessment is strongly influenced by deceptive propaganda. “Useful idiot” has been used to describe people that serve a nefarious agenda based on falsehoods.

I ate Beyond Beef maybe 4 times. It is the newer one without soy and gmo ingredients so I was excited to try.

I was completely objective and initially loved the taste. My first try I told my friends the taste was better than some beef. I think I even posted about it on FR last year.

However, after a few times it was like my body started rejecting it and I threw out the burger. Even a year later, the smell of it cooking makes me sick. Unfortunately the wife still eats it sometimes.

I’m sticking to grassfed beef once again and never got sick of that...

Anything cows can do goats do better. They also take marginal lands and scrub brush and turn it into meat, milk, leather and till the land. Goats are much more hardy than cattle they can live on less water and also are browsers in.addition to grazers they literally will east anything green including cactus chewing around the spines. There is a reason goat is the most consumed red meat on the planet they are magical in their efficiency. Goats are also the pet food of the muzzies and Latinos so the left will never EVER ban it’s consumption notice how they have never once talked about methane from goats which is also under a quarter of what a cow puts out on a lb per lb basis still the left doesn’t let a peep out about goat meat. Nubians are a great dual purpose breed I have feral Nubians on some land in Pecos County I inherited they do a good job of keeping the scrub down and I have never done anything to them other than not fence off the stock pond. Every year I shoot one or two for meat a quick 6.5mm to the boiler room and it’s cabrito for weeks. I would encourage anyone serious about having a on site meat source to look at Nubians or Boer goats.

“Wish I could afford beef.

I’ll have to settle for a double cheeseburger 🍔 from McDonald’s value menu.”

__________________________________

I have basically taken over the family food cooking and shopping, which consists of Myself and Mrs. fatboy and our two adult kids that will not leave.

Anyway I started about 4 years ago doing this as a complete cooking newb. Bought a few used cookbooks in Amazon and watch a lot of youtubes. At first I simply started experimenting with steaks and chili and have moved into a lot of complex dishes.

My point: Prior to my involvement in this we would spend about $300 sometimes more per week at the food store, this pre-biden inflation. Today, our food budget is $800/month and I try to come in at $600/month. Usually it’s about $700/ month and that includes non-food items soaps and such, and some stuff for our prepper bunker. We have beef or chicken or ham 5 or 6 times/week, although meat is not always the main course.

For example you can buy a bottom round roast for less than $5.00/pound even these days of inflation. Chicken is up, boneless cutlets are up a dollar a pound but you can still find it for $3.50/pound. We are saving 4-5 hundred dollars a month and eat great. I cook hamburgers that blow Burger King away for about 1/3rd the price.

BTW we buy most of our meats at Aldi, a place most don’t associate with meats. I haven’t had fast food in over 2 years, even my kids have been awol from McDonalds for about a year.

How is grassfed beef? Noticeably different than grain fed? Are they finished on grain?

Veganaism isn’t a diet, it’s a religion, one that requires the faithful to never miss an opportunity to proselytize.

80 pounds annually per capita in the 1970s and early ’80s to a low of 54 pounds in 2017, it’s steadily rebounded since then to 58.6 pounds in 2021.”

Rebounding to 3/4 the level of 40 years ago ain’t “more than ever.”

I'm guessing "more than ever" hinges on the overall increase in US "capitas" since 40 years ago. (I don't know that number offhand.) It would be changing modes of comparison in midstream, but could be technically true.

Everyone has a different opinion and there are so many different feeds and varieties of cattle it’s difficult to compare. I always stop by family beef farms when traveling and compare. The best beef is definitely not sold in supermarkets and you have to goto the source.

I think grassfed is generally less “greasy” and leaves you with a lighter feeling. I prefer it for ground meat and stews.

For steaks I typically prefer grain fed or grain finished. Delicious but definitely a heavier meal.

Some grassfed steaks can be tough as leather and taste metallic but I’ve had excellent grassfed steaks too. The ribeye from Lidl is one of the best deals for grassfed steak IMO

"Anything cows can do goats do better...."

I have family who are in the rodeo business who would argue with that statement.

I’ll have to look at Aldi for meats.

Walmart often beat them on sandwich meat but I’ll take another look.
