There was a series of attacks by a Great White along the New Jersey shore back in 1916. Killed four. Some think it was the inspiration for Jaws.

As a former scuba diver 1980's (at least 10 yr's) from Washington state (too fat & old 68 yr's old, to scuba now 2022.)
