The area that is protected from view seems to be where the workings of an electromagnetic launch system would be installed. My guess is that China thinks that they have a superior design and want to shield it from US satellite surveillance.

Nice target for Mk-48’s from an LA class boat...Five years for the first one then the gooks mass produce them. They are learning....

I think for surface ships conventional power is a plus, it increases survivability.

Unrep is unmanageable during war time for a ship of this size, as is port call. Not really.

I thought after Ukraine and Russia and ship sinking by missiles, that Carriers were ‘obsolete’.

Carriers will be obsolete when the need for air superiority over huge swaths of open ocean becomes obsolete.

I love this sh*t.
The ChiComm morons still haven’t figured out how to float the carrier Russia gave these baboons 20 years ago. And the ChiComms at the Washington Poo expect us to believe that China has launched a new carrier? HAHAHAHAHAHA!
The only thing to believe about the ChiComm idiots is that their abortion policy has murdered China’s ascendancy for the next 100 years. Nobody in China is having replacement babies. It’s now a nation of old grandpas and grandmas.
Vietnam is going to start eating large chunks of China. So will India. And the idiots predicting that the grandpa ChiComms will take over Russian Siberia are drunk out of their gourds.

Unrep: Cruising in a straight line at 6kts in the company of at least 2 oilers. No CAP.
Refuel in port: Stationary target. No CAP.
Either way a sitting duck.

China has enemies all around it’s coast. Their navy would be sunk quickly.
Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia.
They only need land based missiles to sink the Chinese navy.

Its not like their spies couldn’t ferret this out, right? You miss my point.
By starting with a new design, not hampered by legacy, they may be able to out-innovate the US. There will be absolutely nothing for their spies to steal from us, because we could be the ones left behind.
To: CurlyDave
Well, that is a possibility. It may be true that carriers are so old hat that their secrets aren’t really secrets any longer. That would leave innovation a place for a clean start.

China's first aircraft carrier, Liaoning, was a rebuilt Kuznetsov-class. China;s second carrier,
Shandong was built in China improving on its predecessor. The Type 003 is about the same size as our Kitty Hawk class or USS John F Kennedy. They are building Type 004, which will be larger and have a nuclear power plant. This isn't a joke. The Type 003 and 004 will have stealth aircraft (J-31) and AWACS (copies of the E-2 Hawkeye) to supplement their J-15 (Sukhoi SU-33 improvements). China has modern cruisers, unlike the US. They also have modern destroyers. They can field a cruiser, a frigate or two, and 4 destroyers to escort their carriers. We are lucky to have 3 escorts. China will soon have the capability to blockade Taiwan with aircraft carriers, surface groups, and submarines, as well as their ballistic anti-ship missiles, land-based bombers, etc.
