In 1970 the army fed us C-rations that were made in 1943. We ate things that were dead before we were born.

Legend has it that hardtack rations from the War of 1812 were given out in the Civil War.

I remember reading a while back where these explorers visited an old campsite in the Arctic and found some canned food that was almost a hundred years old and found them somewhat intact, like edible.

I’m thinking it was like a roast beef hash of some sort.

LOL, and thanks for the warning!

In the refrigerator at work, there are several frozen meals months beyond their sell by date.

One was a box of hot pockets, there were two left. After cooking one, I threw the other in the trash, the pasta sauce had turned brown.

Never got sick from it. One minute in the microwave is usually enough to nuke the bad stuff.

Well, we did it; an aside.....we had more time on our hands; life was a way slower pace, than stateside. So the chore didn’t seem all that odious.

It took longer *unlearning* the habit, coming stateside.

I opened a can of beans I’d just bought from the store and they were almost dried out. I had to dig them out of the can with a spoon. I tried to eat them but they were too hard and tasteless so I threw them away.

That was b/c they didn't send the beans to the Lab for testing.

But if the hamburger comes to you when you whistle, it has probably been around too long...
