CodeToad :" . I would highly suggest anyone getting their hands on antibiotics also ensure they have a doctor, nurse, or pharmacist for asking questions before using them.

I whole-heartedly agree that you get professional advice before administration of any medication.
That includes information about dosage size, intervals between dosages, etc.
Most doctors offices have a PDR (Physicians Desk Reference) which annually updates dosages, photo, identification,
any record of adverse reactions and contra-indications of most medications.
I stress ANNUALLY, and as I recall they publish around January, so many doctors will through out last years copy when they get a new one which is updated annually.
If you are familiar with a particular doctor, you could ask for the outdated copy when the replacement comes in,
and they may give you the non-current copy.

>>I suspect fish antibiotics are even harder to calculate dosage than my supply of ivermectin for horses. LOL Thanks Laz!

So not hard at all?

Seriously, if you have trouble with the math on that, thank a teacher! A government school teacher. Because the math is pretty easy.

I had a neighbor who was that kind of person, the patient who wanted antibiotics for a cold, would nag the doctor for a prescription. There was no getting through to her how bad an idea that was, to take antibiotics without needing them. Lord, that woman was a thorn in my side. Her kids were brats, too

I have a deviated septum and was very prone to getting sinus infections especially when I was still a 2 pack a day smoker. My doctors used to give me anti-biotics like they were handing out lollipops to kids. Stuffy nose? Here’s an anti-biotic.

Finally, one day I had a doctor who told me that just because I had a severely stuffy nose, even yellow goop coming out, that doesn’t mean it’s a bacterial infection and how the overuse of anti-biotics when there was no bacterial infection was harmful and causing resistant bacterial strains. That was over 20 years ago.

“Also got a bottle of Doxycycline”

Just a heads up; most antibiotics won’t hurt you if they are expired. They may not be as effective. The -cyclines, though, could be problematic. You might want to do some research on those before taking them if they’re expired.

Amoxicillin-Clavulanate Azithromycin Ciprofloxacin Doxycycline Metronidazole

My oldest son had 4 open heart surgeries, a two lead pacemaker, two artificial heart valves and a "pig patch" on his tricuspid valve. He contracted bronchitis as a consequence of a dental assistant with a cold. The local urgent care facility prescribed Z-Pak (azithromycin). On the 5th day after starting the Z-Pak he returned for a checkup. His PT (a measure of time to clot) was over 8.5. The clinic staff said to stop taking his anti-clotting meds immediately. At 1:19 AM his heart stopped (that was his very last mouse click on his computer). His mom found him cold and dead at 8:20 AM when she arrived home from her night shift. Sudden cardiac death due to prolonged QT intervals caused by azithromycin.

I shared that story in hopes that others buying meds off the shelf are fully aware of the need to weigh the suitability of a particular medication. My son had inherent heart arrythmias from the installed heart valves. The pacemaker was nearing end of life and in need of a replacement. Azithromycin is contraindicated for people with heart arrhythmias. Make sure you aren't in that category before using it.

When I was in HS, I did a research project on the over-use of antibiotics resulting in antibiotic-resistant bacteria. I won several local and regional science fairs for my project. That was over 40 years ago. It’s been known for a long time now, though it was just being acknowledged back then. Doctors who willingly handed out prescriptions for them unnecessarily have made things so much worse. I think most of them have learned their lesson by now, but there are still some poor doctors around. Stay away from them.

At the time I didn’t pay any attention to the brand. But I have bought ivermectin at the feed store here in Florida. They have it locked up but you just have to ask for help. I’m thinking I would just look at the different bottles with a magnifying glass and make a decision. Or do some research online first. But if you live anywhere near the Mexico border that would be the place to go and just stock up on all kinds of medicines. No prescription needed.

Yes.

Ziplock bag, squeeze all the air out and put in some rice in the bag too.

Keep in freezer.

Let cool to room temperature before opening.
