Underpaid faculty? Compared to who? The average salary of a full professor at Oberlin is $147,000 a year. Not shabby. My guess is that most Oberlin Professors work 24/7.
24 hours a week, seven months a year.

This almost reads like a dig against Oberlin. ie, “Instead of defaming Gibson, you could have spent that $36M for xyz”

Clearly it took a well compensated and salaried genius to figure this out.

I think it was. Past president disapproves of the present mess. Could be wrong...

Mr. Starr, it would be wonderful if your college hiring board was mentally equipped enough to hire competent administrators this may not of happened. Unfortunately, it is likely you hired the PHD woke narcissists and sociopaths that hire the incompetents that caused the loss of 36 million dollars in the first place. A six year old can understand if you have nothing nice or useful to say to STFU.

As President of Oberlin, this idiot was no doubt was part of or accomodated the inveterate Leftism that cost Oberlin so dearly.

Oberlin could close its doors tomorrow and the academic world would demonstrably be better.

Glad to be first on this one! So this is one of the ways the former President of Oberlin thinks this is one of the ways (he says "or") this $36M could have been spent:

(2) By reducing this year’s tuition bill to all 2,658 students by $957.

Hey Prez, 2698 students X $957/student = $2,581,986.00. Not $36 million.

You idiot. No wonder enrollment is down at that crappy school.

Bank robbers could find better uses for their time than robbing banks. But they don’t, because they are willing to excuse their bad and violent behavior that harms others.

Just like Oberlin. They see nothing wrong in what they did, and think it unfair that they should be penalized for it.

So Oberlin is like an unrepentant bank robber in prison, resenting those who put them there and pondering the unfairness in life that is persecuting them so.

Addendum: I apologize to mr. Start as I should have explained better that the administration who caused this mess needed to STFU and think before foot in moth disease got them into this mess. They just move on to other universities and likely have not learned much ( still spouting the same crap but quietly).

Odds that they will do it again?

Since they have learnt precisely nada from this whole experience, and they are still woke leftist warriors on a mission from [their] god, all it will take is the right stimulus.

Given the opportunity, I'd say the odds are pretty good.

“Regarding the $36 million Oberlin College has been required to pay Gibson’s Bakery”.

________

Yep. Just “required”. No mention in the letter that it was “ORDERED” by the Court due to their disgusting behavior and the harm they caused the bakery. I can see how Oberlin ended up with such a judgment against them. With a history of such previous leadership, it probably should have happened long ago.

You'd think a former College President could have gotten the math at least in the ballpark, right?

But...it's Oberlin. I suppose that's asking a lot.

Agreed. Need to crush the college to it’s real low significance level....but how? Maybe research their workers and find someone who wants to file real sex or racist abuse charges. Publicize any bogus degrees they give out so less companies will hire their grads.Get their old school grads who ain’t woke to stop contributing....

There’s always the option of not starting trouble in the first place. It’s way less expensive.

And all of the students who paid to go there could have found better things to do with $250,000 than waste it on tuition for a diploma from that crap-hole.

”Oberlin College is ranked #2,217 out of 2,223 for value nationwide.” (https://www.collegefactual.com/colleges/oberlin-college/paying-for-college/value-for-your-money/).
