You're very welcome. The COVID fiasco is near and dear to my heart because of the implications it had for my business.

I ended up relocating to another state -- and COVID restrictions were a big reason for all the business-related decisions I made. For the reasons I've cited here, Florida never would have been on my list of potential relocation destinations even if everything else worked out in its favor.

ORLANDO — Such high-profile Florida Republicans as U.S. Sen. Rick Scott and Gov. Ron DeSantis declined even to mention the Russian invasion of Ukraine over the weekend at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando.

Not so Florida 1st District Congressman Matt Gaetz.

Advising people to take a course of action is not the same thing as issuing an order that has the force of law behind it.

OK then, to summarize, the only specific thing you can come up with that DeSantis has done that you disagree with, is that he followed Trump's guidelines regarding the lockdowns, based on your responses so far.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't agree with DeSantis locking anything down either. I just firmly believe he doesn't do it unless Trump issues guidelines requesting it. And Trump did it at Fauci and Birx's request, when he should have known at the time based on the "gain of function" discussion already being well underway, that he should have not had them on his advisory panel.

So DeSantis made a mistake following Trump's guidance, we can agree on that. But Trump made two critical mistakes, first listening to Fauci who probably created the virus to begin with, and second, issuing the guidelines to the entire nation that led to the shutdown. All DeSantis did was follow Trump's guidelines.

Governors typically make better presidential candidates because they have executive experience, and don’t have a national-issue voting record to defend.

Matt Ganz is a true MAGA questioning our involvement in Ukraine, while the others shied away from speaking on it.

“Why should Americans have to pay the costs for freedom elsewhere when our own leaders won’t stand up for our freedom here?”

Remember that the Trump administration guidelines were published as part of the original "two weeks to flatten the curve" strategy. The DeSantis executive order came out AFTER those two weeks ended.

And what magnifies DeSantis' problem in my mind is that he ran around during this most recent campaign portraying himself as a "defender of freedom and liberty during COVID" when he was anything BUT a defender of freedom and liberty back in March-April 2020. So on top of all that I've already posted about him, he's a disingenuous, lying jackass as well.

I just firmly believe he doesn't do it unless Trump issues guidelines requesting it.

Maybe you're right, but that's not how it played out at the time. DeSantis caved to political pressure in Florida from city and county officials who were already issuing their own draconian lockdown orders.

I would also ask you to please post any information you had about guidelines from the Trump administration telling any state officials to block interstate travel and impose mandatory quarantine periods for those travelers.

You're trying to make excuses for DeSantis by claiming that he only did what the Trump COVID task force was publishing in its guidelines, but it's clear that he went far beyond what they recommended.

As far as I'm concerned, DeSantis now occupies the same ignominious place as that retarded governor from New Jersey, who had the audacity to get on Tucker Carlson's show one night in April 2020 and state that "I wasn't thinking of the Bill of Rights when we did this [impose draconian lockdowns]."

I hate to do it a good friend, but it appears this is factually incorrect as well, or completely misleading at best. See this article for example:

How 15 Days Became 45: Trump Extends Guidelines

So to be precise, here is the exact order of events:

March 16, 2020: Trump issues his lockdown guidelines

March 30, 2020: Trump extends his lockdown guidelines

April 1, 2020: DeSantis announces his lockdown plans based on Trump's guidelines

From the article: Florida has now joined the list of states that are ordering residents to remain in their homes for all but essential activities to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis made the announcement at an afternoon briefing. It was just a few hours after he spoke to President Trump.

Note the difference here:

GUIDELINES (which have no enforcement mechanism outside Federal jurisdiction)

vs.

Florida has now joined the list of states that are ordering residents to remain in their homes ...

The only governor in the U.S. who came out of that fiasco looking like a champion was Kristi Noem of South Dakota.

I would also ask you to please post any information you had about guidelines from the Trump administration telling any state officials to block interstate travel and impose mandatory quarantine periods for those travelers.

Guidelines from Trump did address travel, specifically, as shown in his direct quotes in post 56:

Therefore, my administration is recommending that all Americans, including the young and healthy, work to engage in schooling from home when possible. Avoid gathering in groups of more than 10 people. Avoid discretionary travel...

However, I am fairly certain DeSantis did not block any interstate travel, especially on interstates. I know because I live here, and had family from out of state come visit me, among many other ways of knowing travel was not blocked. If you have concrete evidence that interstate travel was blocked, I'd certainly be interested in seeing it. But, lest we forget, Trump is the one who requested travel be limited.

Well good for her, if true, but that is a complete red herring. The point of this discussion has long been what specific actions has DeSantis has taken that you disagree with, and so far, all we have is that you don't like the fact that he implemented Trump's guidelines.

Go back and watch the first 40-45 seconds of the video I linked in Post #47. Pay particular attention to the point about National Guard personnel waiting there and forcing interstate travelers to provide information about the locations where they would be staying for their 14-day quarantine periods.

That is RON DESANTIS HIMSELF speaking there.

Now close your eyes and imagine what you'd be posting here right now on FreeRepublic if the person speaking there was:

- Joe Biden
- Andrew Cuomo
- Gavin Newsome
- Gretchen Whitmer
- Phil Murphy
- etc., etc.

Let's not kid ourselves. We'd be here clamoring about Nazi governors imposing draconian, totalitarian lockdowns on U.S. citizens without any due process.

This was Nazi sh!t when it was done in Australia, Great Britain, Israel, Canada, etc. And it's Nazi sh!t when it's done in Florida, too.

I saw that already. He specifically says that was only to monitor incoming travelers from New York City, at the airports. That is a far cry from your inference that ALL interstate travel into Florida was being blocked, which I knew was incorrect. It appears the ONLY travel being blocked was from the Demo-rat infested NY city that had obscene infection rates. THAT blockage of travel, I can partially even agree with.

So Trump's lockdown guidelines went even further than what DeSantis implemented. Good thing DeSantis didn't follow Trump's guidance all the way, right? Isn't that what you're so proud of Noem for?

The article says the restrictions went even further:

Those traveling on flights from the tristate area -- New York, New Jersey or Connecticut – as well as Louisiana, will be met by National Guard troops and public health officials at major Florida airports.

DeSantis ordered highway checkpoints be set in place for traffic from Louisiana that enters the state on Interstate 10 and on Interstate 95, the route many people from the New York City area drive down south.

You're trying to conflate DeSantis' actions with the Trump administration guidelines. They are not the same. DeSantis effectively implemented the Federal guidelines through other executive orders -- EO #20-83 (dated 3/24/20), for example, which mirrored the Federal language as a public health guideline/directive without any enforcement mechanism.

Note that DeSantis' 4/1/2020 executive order specifically references Chapter 252 of the Florida Statutes, which includes enforcement and penalty provisions for violations as misdemeanor crimes.

You're trying to conflate DeSantis' actions with the Trump administration guidelines.

They are definitely related, while you'd like to pretend Trump never even issued lockdown guidelines.

The technical term for this type of relationship is known as "Cause and Effect" which I'm sure you're familiar with.

But I don't see any need to continue this discussion any further. My original request to you was to identify any actions by DeSantis that have concerned you OTHER than him following the directives of Trump with regard to Covid lockdowns. Since you don't appear to have any, I will consider the matter closed. Thanks.
