Doubt It. They most likely just took the money from their rather large, sheltered, TAX FREE endowment. If they were real sneaky bastards they would have purchased an annuity (structured settlement) that took say 10-20 years to fully pay out. Gibson’s Bakery got paid, just no idea HOW MANY YEARS it will take to pay out.

The University Learned NOTHING.

Better article about this at Legal Insurrection, whose coverage of this story over the years, and support for the Gibsons, was great.

One small win in a wave of crime throughout America where the businesses shut down as the police ignores cries for help.

If this one business was due over $30m, how much more to the thousands of businesses looted and burned to the ground over absolute lies like “hands up, don’t shoot”?

The owners of this store had passed away during the long delay for Justice.

It is a win but likely won’t stop the wave of liberal communist insanity destroying the country.

Yes, there were legacy admissions, and of course exceptions to the rule.

Trust me - the average person without connections, there was no way they were getting into major colleges or universities.

The comparisons are very, very stark. Our High Schools in the 1930s and 1940s, were fairly rigorous and included foreign language requirements and higher level Math.

There was a story reported recently, a major university is dropping the Math requirement, they can’t get anyone to pass Algebra.

People have no clue what is happening, it is practically an extinction level event in a lot of ways, our “education” system has failed. We up until fairly recently used to hear about “competing in the global economy” and setting the standard for excellence and preparing for the future. These make for great slogans on posters in the hallways, but it doesn’t appear they are preparing anybody for anything.

Meanwhile, students in say, India - Calculus in 5th grade.

Of course, the media will paint Oberlin as a victim, that’s all they know. They will never report the egregious and illegal behavior of the psychopath Dean at the root of the malfeasance.

YES!
And no mention of the student thief, a recent grad of a $$$ prep school... Changed his name and now works for Oberlin.

Yes, but...

The money angle has been there forever.

A relative out of Vanderbilt, with honors+++

Was waitlisted for the med school his father graduated from.

His father received a call asking for a donation; they negotiated.
The son had a long and successful medical career.

A perfect phrase.

I have read that early on Russia wanted more proles to become P.E.s. If your father was an engineer, you were out of the program.

Eventually, they saw the error.

Some say the Soviets never recovered to the old standards.

Meanwhile, from an FR post today, the Kansas state university system will likely drop the Algebra I requirement for graduation. One in three freshmen failed the course. Oh.

Math is hard.

I hope the court charged Oberlin interest on the late payment. Bastards.
