What’s with the music being played while the golfers are playing? And is there some kind of wacky team format? Thanks.
I did not watch either—but I hope the LIV takes off and crushes the PGA monopoly.
The Honda Classic had an exciting playoff, but the field was weak. Sad for Jacks event. LIV is having an impact on the PGA Tour.
Individual and team prize money. The music is not bothersome as it’s very low volume.
The Honda was one of the lower prize money events, next week the Arnold Palmer event will have a stronger field.
His real event is The Memorial in Ohio, but this one benefits the Children's foundation. It's also the last year for Honda after 42 years, longest sponsorship I believe.
My first thought as well.
The real news is the bottom (48th) getting $120K. That’s really where LIV is going to eat the PGA. Bottom of the table guys in the PGA make next to nothing. Guys that finished 49th in the Honda got $20K and last got $15K. Trying to grind out a living below the top 20 in the PGA is a nightmare, it’s basically play every weekend, with all the hotel and travel that implies, to squeeze out a middle class life. Give these guys the ability to make 6 times as much they’ll beat a path to LIV’s door.
Honda did draw a very weak field - a lot of the top players took the week off as the tour transitioned from the West Coast to Florida. With Arnold Palmer’s tournament this week followed by The Player’s and then the quick run-up to The Master’s, it was a good opportunity.
And Charles Howell III... good for him! He’s always been just outside the very elite on the PGA Tour. Great payday.
While not exactly a Who's Who among golf pros, all good solid players. And LIV needs players to fill out fields agains the bigger names.
Have you noticed on the PGA showing that the first hour is indoctrination about black people becoming golfers and how special they are?
The Sunday version of PGA was unwatchable. Too much stupid talk and not enough coverage of what it was supposed to be, namely golfing.
I tired of being lectured to from rich celebs preaching about the blacks.
So 100% done with pro sports
Any of you guys following these clowns and their 4 million dollar payouts are freaking losers
PGA is becoming the Blue league while the LIV is the Red league. The entire country is splitting up.
All the players want to participate in Bay Hill as it honors Arnold Palmer. And a good tune-up for The Player's. While The Player's is not a major it has about the biggest prize money of the year.
LIV Golf Mexico – Team Payouts
WIN: Crushers GC (Paul Casey, Bryson DeChambeau, Charles Howell III, Anirban Lahiri), 10 under: $3,000,000
2. 4 Aces GC (Dustin Johnson, Pat Perez, Patrick Reed, Peter Uihlein), 7 under: $1,500,000
3. Torque GC (Joaquin Niemann, Sebastian Munoz, Mito Pereira, David Puig), 5 over: $500,000
In the 2022 season, the 125th ranked player on the PGA Tour, who just coincidentally was Charles Howell III, earned $1.026M on the course. That’s not exactly chump change. The 125th spot is the demarcation for full exemption into all Tour events the following season. Now if you’re outside the Top 125 it’s a bit more of a struggle true, but you can still make a very good living. And looking at the millions and millions of golfers worldwide, if you can manage to make any kind of living from it, more power to you.
I do get fed up with all the adverts and promos pushing all the PGA's diversity efforts. I mean, WGAS? If POC kids want to play golf, then they can play golf!
If LIV is paying Patrick Reed $139,000 for shooting 5 over on 3 rounds of golf, they’re going to be streaming through Saudi money for a long time before they break even.
