In the 2022 season, the 125th ranked player on the PGA Tour, who just coincidentally was Charles Howell III, earned $1.026M on the course. That’s not exactly chump change. The 125th spot is the demarcation for full exemption into all Tour events the following season. Now if you’re outside the Top 125 it’s a bit more of a struggle true, but you can still make a very good living. And looking at the millions and millions of golfers worldwide, if you can manage to make any kind of living from it, more power to you.

There are 450 players in the NBA, the lowest salary by contract is 1 million for a rookie and over 2.5 for an average player. Being 125th on the PGA tour making 1 million, I'd join the LIV in a second.

According to wiki Howell played in 16 events, and made 11 cuts with 1 top 10 and 5 top 25s. So while he’s nowhere near the top, he’s still not really at the bottom. And even still if Kim gets 48th at every LIV event, and their payout is fairly consistent, he’ll make 1.6 million, with 2 fewer events. It’s the guys making the cut maybe 50% of the time that have been complaining about the grind of the PGA tour for years. That’s the crack LIV is driving through.

The NBA gets a lot more television money than either the PGA or LIV and that money filters to players, and the NBA has become a league almost run exclusively by the players themselves.

I would say that professional sports, any pro sports, is a grind. The travel, the pressure to perform, the competition... wearing. But there is the reward of making a living playing a game you love. And all the perks.

Watched some of the Honda (PGA) and some of the LIV this Sunday. The Honda was a very weak field, The LIV was stacked full of great golfers and was more enjoyable to watch

I couldn't disagree more. The Honda was exciting, great competition. The Mexico course was pedantic. The players were more well known, yes... but, there was ZERO drama.

Pay for your travel, food, caddy, hotel transportation and clubs and take taxes, and those expenses out of 1 M you have about 300K left, MAYBE.
