He over acted in everything else city that he played after Godfather
It was the haircut in Godfather Part III that ruined him.
The Godfather, terrific movie.
Brando, EXCELLENT.
I can watch it 100 times and I always learn something new. Been trying to fin the Godfather Epic on streaming but not around. I was told they edited I & II into a linear, 7 hour series.
Some of my favorite old movies -
Casablanca
The Maltese Falcon
White Heat
Yankee Doodle Dandy
The Roaring Twenties
Bad Day At Black Rock
Godfather I: Perfection
Godfather II: Incredibly, improved on perfection
Godfather III: Don’t get me started.
I watched GF III for the first time in over 30 years a few weeks ago with my wife when we binged watched the trilogy (she had never seen any of the films). It actually holds up better than I remember. Biggest problem is with the horribly miscast Sofia Coppola, George Hamilton, and Don Novello. The second half of the film is actually pretty good.
The problem with GFIII, is that I can’t believe it was the same Michael Corleone from the first two GF movies, yes I know he “changed”, but you simply don’t change that much.
His overacting started with “And Justice for All” and it was downhill from there.
“Great actors should just shut up and act.”
AMEN! And great singers should just shut up and sing.
Once they start yammering about politics their love of totalitarianism and their hatred of conservatives, you can never watch or hear then the same way again.
Except for Jane Fonda. She’s ALWAYS been an anti-American creep. But, I do confess I enjoyed her and her Dad in “On Golden Pond.”
I think Scarlett is supposed to be an unlikeable harpy in that movie.
Scarface was my favorite.
I saw him perform Jack Lennon’s role of Shelly Levine on Broadway as by that time Al was too old to play Ricky Roma (Bobby Cannavale played Ricky in the performance I saw). Great play but the movie is helped by the addition of the character of Blake who is not in the play.
I assume Blake was the Alec Baldwin character.
My favorite line from Glengarry Glenn Ross:
Oh, what a big man you are! “Hey, let me buy you a pack of gum. I’ll show you how to chew it.”
“I kill communists for fun, main”
“But for a Green Card, I’m gonna carve him up real nice.”
I can’t imagine Pacino playing Levine. Jack Lemmon was born for that role.
I always tell the truth. Even when I lie.
"I’m here on the ground with my nose in it since the whole thing began! I’ve nurtured every sensation man has been inspired to have! I cared about what he wanted and I never judged him. Why? Because I never rejected him, in spite of all his imperfections! I’m a fan of man! I’m a humanist. Maybe the last humanist. Who, in their right mind, Kevin, could possibly deny the 20th century was entirely mine? All of it, Kevin! All of it! Mine! I’m peaking, Kevin. It’s my time now. It’s our time."
