Had some millenial go off on me about a bad impersination of Dick Cavett, on an HBO show.
Get mad at me for enjoying the Dick Cavett show.
Mike Douglas was on the living room TV at least 5 days a week in my home during childhood. Later on, we had to chose between this show and Dark Shadows.
My dad used to watch the Mike Douglas show. I appreciate that you linked to the whole show, opening with Mike doing a lounge singer version of “With a Little Help from my Friends”. I’ll take that over a Yoko Ono interview any day.
I always wondered what the deal was with those over sized asterisks he had everywhere. The Dating Game had similar, but I think those were supposed to be flowers.
Must be hard up for entertainment
Nah, just remembering better times, except Yoko.
Alright call me a mysonnigist, feminist.
The oversized asterisks were commonly used as decoration back in the mid to late 60s. They were usually bright in color, Peter Max style.
For a week in 1972, John and Yoko actually hosted the Mike Douglas show for an entire week. That must have been fun.
I actually like Yoko Ono. She's a very attractive woman, quite smart, and while her style of singing is a bit of an acquired taste, she definitely can sing!
Yoko seems very nice overall.
Never noticed this before, but Mike Douglas bears a slight resemblance to Tucker Carlson.

Oh boy did you open a can of worms.
Well, it’s been a boring night so far.
Mike was pretty cool, had Zappa on one of his shows.

And speaking of Yoko, let’s just say Zappa wasn’t a fan.
Really Yoko? Cynthia Lennon and Jane Asher had a 100 times more class than Yoko.
I just think Yoko Ono is a nice person. She never seems angry and has always been super polite in her public appearances.
Well John left her for May Pang in 73, I don't blame him, but the dummie went back to the controlling woman, worst mistake of his life, after leaving Cynthia.
I guess you know where I am going.
I still wonder how it was Yoko was standing next to John and Chapman didn’t save a bullet for her? Hmmmmmm.
Mike Douglas always struck me as a pretty nice guy. Now Merv Griffin, on the other hand, was a leering creep, made my skin crawl. It was revealed years later that he was a homosexual.
Plus he turned out to be the Elevator Killer.
I can find the funny in Andy Kaufman.
You’ve got me beat: I can’t find the music/art in Yoko Ono.
Well, legend has it that Merv Griffin wrote the theme song for TV show Jeopardy back in 1964. He wrote it as a lullbaby for his son. The working title was “A Time for Tony”.
Before his death, Merv made over $70. Million Dollars in royalties from that melody.
(Plus he turned out to be the Elevator Killer.)
Lol. What?
