I remember back when I was kid, Hubbard’s book “Dienetics” seemed to be at every checkout counter, just like the “National Enquirer”. Yes, and there was always a group of people on college campuses manning a table full of those books and offering to give people “free intelligence tests.”
Fortunately, I had been warned about this scam and was able to resist their slimy tactics. They could be awfully persistent sometimes, though. And they snagged two acquaintances of mine.

They tried to sucker us into taking a “personality test” on weekends at the intersection of Wisconson and M Street in Georgetown - across from the gold-domed Riggs Bank - when we were out for some beers and perhaps the long-running Rocky Horror Picture Show just up Wisconson in the late ‘70s. LOL. We were young & dumb no doubt, but never THAT stupid.
Proof that it’s a commercial scam and not a religion is self-evident. Wonder why the PTB can’t figure that out.
