Emissions are the least of my worries with some of the cars on the roads. Do you think all the illegals are going to be driving cars in good condition?

Inspection of tires and brakes should be manditory.

Um, Maryland has NEVER had “safety inspections”. I’ve been here my whole life and that is one good thing about MD.

Inspections in Texas are a royal PIA. All sorts of timing limitations. Just a real pain. Very few states have them. Some are limited to urban areas, such as Arizona.

Okay, maybe it was emissions. I do recall selling car in Virginia to a Maryland resident and it passing inspection was selling condition. Virginia had inspections, again, my cars were always well maintained.

We’re talking about regular inspections, not at sale. MD never had regular periodic inspections (until they adopted the emissions nonsense), while PA does.

I don’t recall the specifics but when Mike Huckabee did this in Arkansas, sure, they removed the inspection requirement but raised the annual reg renewal by more than the cost of the inspection tag. Didn’t change anything regarding vehicle safety as the LE types can conduct roadside safety inspections at will.

We have had the communist religious ceremony of emissions test for decades now, but nothing else.

Regarding, “Exactly. Texas is like only 1 of 13 states to still require inspections. Lots of noise here. Probably mechanics and Rinos.”

YES, thanks. No one needs this with modern cars. We do not need “inspectioneers” secretly ripping our windshield wipers to make us go buy un-needed replacement wipers to “pass.” ETC.

Nothing will happen. Mexicans who abuse properly running autos will just keep doing it. FREEDOM demands that we stop fascist government-corporate collusion!

Next stop: get rid of FRONT license plates. OK for Florida but in Texas the world will fall apart without front plates? FREEDOM!

“No brakes, bald tires, broken lights—what could possibly go wrong?”

In my original home state of Maryland, you only had to have a vehicle inspected when you sold it. Of course any LEO could give you an inspection ticket to make you put it through inspection.

And, if your insurance lapsed, they sent you a notice and they would make you turn in your tags.

They did make you get the emissions test every two years, but we all knew that was a pure money grab.

I would hope it would mean fewer cars with fake paper tags, but I suspect that most of those don’t have insurance so they still won’t be able to be registered.

Here’s a suggestion for a hobby. Walk through a parking lot and count the number of vehicles with expired stickers.

I don’t know how happy you should be about lost jobs repairing and maintaining automobiles. The byproduct will be a reduction of safety on the highways.

Anchorage and Fairbanks used to have vehicle inspections. Once that ended there's never been a single instance where highway safety was impacted. It's just government overreach. It reminds me of all the wailing and gnashing over doing away with concealed carry permits. How the streets will run red with blood. It's all just a bunch of bull crap.

This is actually pretty stupid because so many people will keep driving until something breaks. Tie rod ends letting go can kill people.

For those states that have the emissions testing.... That should be ended.

Now you just need to get rid of the requirement for a front license plate. Last year Alaska became the 22nd state to end this requirement.
