Remember the wisdom left to us by Mitch Hedberg,
“Waffles are like pancakes with syrup traps.”
Two seemingly different things are actually the same thing subjected to different experiences.
PFFFF!=>MIND<=PFFFF!
I know.
If avoiding heat in the house is the primary intent then Vigilanteman is right,
“Beefles are like hamburgers with ketchup traps.” (You need a better marketing guy.)
There are all kinds of things that can be made between two hot plates of metal so it doesnt need to be a Foreman grill.
Around 20 years ago there was quite a bit of interest regarding the question, “Will it waffle?” There were quite a few ideas floating around and one guy eventually even wrote a book by that name.
This was about the time that one of my kids who was quite small decided that she wanted to grow up to become “a chefft”, or maybe it was a “cheffed”.
Being quite independent but too small to be safe in the kitchen we got her a waffle maker with 4 different interchangeable plates.
Over the course of the next year or so I had just about every normal American food made in a waffle iron. She went right through all the muffins and cakes, eggs, hashbrowns, bacons and ham, then ran right through hamburgers, sausages and wursts of all kinds, and chicken breasts, before heading into dinner items like pork chops, and trout.
One night, I believe it was New Years, she smashed us some beef tenderloin steaks, butterflied jumbo shrimp, and quite possibly the best kroketten I had ever eaten anywhere.
Oh sure, things like brownies and mozzarella sticks may look a bit different but turn out actually better than the originals so it doesnt take long to get used to.
It also travels well so staying in hotels away from home no longer means bad or high priced restaurants.
I think I paid $6 or $8, so it’s in the ballpark. The recipe called for 1-1/2 cups of wheat berries and four tomatoes. It made a LOT! And I used maybe 3;4 of the box.
How about manifold cooking on your way up Humphreys Peak?
Its nice and cool up there, maybe something heavy is exactly what youll want once you get up there?
Of course, doing that kind of thing day after day may get expensive at todays gas prices.
I never heard of flavor pellets or a Traeger grill. Going to look into this. Thanks :)
That pizza looks da bomb! Wow. I’d say you’ve got the hang of it!
Likin’ this one. Thanks :)
Interesting. Wanna try this one.
Spam and pineapple kebabs slathered in BBQ sauce then served on tortillas with your favorite cheese.
I’ve never heard of Humphreys Peak but I just had a cold Guinness (and I am no beer drinker but that hit the spot, putting me just in the mood for a post like this one :) had it with homemade tacos which is what I finally chose) and looked it up on Google maps. I am pretty sure I’ve been there many years ago, been to Flag many times.
Wish they’d put in a railroad to Flagstaff and the Grand canyon for passengers. I’d be up there for lunch and stuff, support the local stores/restaurants in the summer. I’m sure the train would be loaded with Phoenicians escaping the heat!
😆
I go with the grilling up a bunch of chicken. You can do it outside and there’s plenty of extra for leftovers. We make salads with the seasoned chicken added, or just make chicken salad with onions, celery, and green or red peppers.
POtato sald works, too and hotdogs are easy to grill and reheat beautifully.
Probably at the top of my list, though is the BLT idea.
And sun tea.
Yum.........
Potato salad.....
Single skillet
Ground beef
zucchini slices (garden)
tomatoes (garden)
onions
serve with grated parmesan
That really does sound like a good one. Will try that one.
Thanks! All our friends and family are giving it 10 out of 10! That crust is wonderful. There’s nothing like popping it in a 900 degree wood oven and watching it puff up and turn golden with those great “leopard” spots. It took quite a bit of practice and experimentation, but I’m getting close.
Pair with a cold Pilsner (a real one) or champaign/prosecco.
For dessert: Vanilla ice cream with fresh raspberries. Or ginger ice cream and diced peaches.
Later: Bourbon and a cigar.
‘Ginger ice cream’
Fascinating!
A lot of the smaller dairies make the ginger. This one has little bits of ginger in it. (ginger chip?). Don't know why the bigger mass market operations don't sell it. So refreshing. And a la mode during apple pie season? Fuggetaboutit.

So says the Great Ginger Evangelist.
I love ginger and I’m hoping to find and try that.
