OK, let’s walk this through:
1. The cop stops them because he mis-typed the state of the car’s plate and decides to conduct a “high risk” stop.
2. He draws his pistol and points it, while ordering everyone’s hands outside the windows, while calling for backup.
3. Why didn’t he realize that the hands out of the real windows were children’s hands?
4. When they did realize that there were nicely-dressed people in the car and they were scared, why did they continue with the “guns drawn, shouting at them” tactic?
When I had just got out of the hospital for the injuries I received in combat in Vietnam, the car I was driving was roughly pushed by an LAPD cruiser up onto the curb, damaging my suspension, and the officer pointed a shotgun in my face and told me to get out. I struggled to get out of the car because I was wearing a full-length steel leg brace and it was hard to move fast. And he slammed me on the ground.
He thought that my car was stolen and was really mad that I hadn’t pulled over - but he had forgotten to turn on his overhead lights so I had no idea he was after me.
No apology - and he gave me a ticket for an “unsafe lane change”.
Welcome home.
I’d say she had sufficient reason to check the plate. They really need no reason (probable cause)to run one, just to pull you over. Was she profiling blacks? Who knows?
“All the typical things that San Francisco people do.”
I think this might be Frisco, Texas?
But, yeah, cops do see the lower levels of society mostly.
I agree.
“Who wants to be a cop these days?”
Too many of the “wrong” people. In the past they may have been passed over because the “right” people were available, but the way things are going the “right” people won’t want to be cops so the “wrong” people will be hired.
They missed the basketball tournament that they worked hard for because of a moron cop. That is sad.
No, she did not have sufficient reason. She was on a power trip.
They don’t have to have any reason, legally, to run a DMV check.
Everyone make mistakes. However quickly uncovering one’s mistake is essential. Particularly in that job.
This didn’t happen. No common sense and no doublechecking. I would fire him.
“Honest” mistake and that’s it? There is no excuse for an “honest” mistake that subjects a family to possible death or the trauma they suffered. The cop should be fired and both the cop and city should be sued for everything the cop has a big chunk of change from the city. Your attitude is a BIG part of the problem. “Oh well, we made a mistake. Sorry about that”.
Word!
ARizona
Her. Black. Probably untouchable.
Philosophically, I agree with you. An awful lot of people that ought not carry a gun would be doing so, though. There was a local idiot with a CCW permit that seemed to think he was a cop. He interjected himself into a situation that should have bern ignored...a homeless person walking along, yelling. He ended up shooting the guy. Dumb.
Ummm-the stop was done by the Frisco, TEXAS Police Department which is located in Frisco, TEXAS.
> Your attitude is a BIG part of the problem. <
Please go back and read the first paragraph of my post. Anyway, when somebody throws out a personal insult, I’m thing he has little interest in having a civil conversation.
And that’s a shame, as I often learn new things from civil conversations.
My grandson, who lived and was licensed in Arizona was stopped and ticketed in Illinois for speeding and the trooper put Arkansas on the ticket. Grandson paid it anyway.
Nope. Not even that.
The error resulted in an incorrect registration return, leading the officer to believe that the vehicle was possibly stolen.
The machine basicly said "Error, would you like to try again?" and office Jumpy said, "Stolen car!"
Perhaps the police should introduce the concept of "check your work" to their department.
And their reasons for running the plate in the first place are paper thin.
Just the amount of money states are forking over due to white police negligence at best. That’s enough proof right there. Tax payer money is real.
“Can’t make mistakes these days - someone might get his feelings hurt.”
It’s not about feelings. Innocent people could have been killed by trigger happy cops
