Reminds me of the AM radio station I listened to as a kid in Texas, KLIF in Dallas. They played everything from The Doors to Dionne Warwick.
Maybe. I think it has much more to do with the radicalism of journalism schools.
In the early 2010s, I assisted in writing a book called “Partisan Journalism” with Jim Kuypers. For many reasons, I just contributed my work without attribution. What I found, in interviews with older journalists, was that there used to be a code that was completely ditched by the late 1960s. Key to this were a couple of items:
*NEVER us an anonymous source
*ALWAYS have at least two different sources for any fact
*ALWAYS tell the “other side of the story,” by which they didn’t mean in a hit piece about Donald Trump you have the DemoKKKrat and Michael Steele or Chris Christie. You have someone who absolutely explains TRUMP’S position in a sympathetic way.
None of these are followed today.
Correct on all points. Hence my opening salvo, “Back in the days when some universities still taught classical journalism...”
If someone like Gerbner tried to put forward a fact-based statistical analysis today that differs from the narrative, it wouldn’t even get published without simultaneously triggering calls for his cancellation, removal from tenure, loss of pension, etc...
